BMW 6-Series Coupe (2012)

The hearts of sports car aficionados with an eye for beauty and a
thirst for luxury and innovative technology will beat a little faster
with the arrival of the new BMW 6-Series Coupe. The third generation of
the top-class Coupe sees premium carmaker BMW adding another
intoxicating chapter to its decades-long tradition in the production of
exclusive dream cars. The new BMW 6-Series Coupe impresses with its
irresistible design and inspires with even sharper driving dynamics than
its predecessor, noticeably optimised comfort levels and extra space.
This is the only car in the segment to offer the combination of
top-class sporting ability, exclusive touring comfort and a 460-litre
(16.24 cu. ft) luggage space. Also on board to deliver the BMW 6-Series
Coupe's signature driving experience are a range of innovative driver
assistance systems and BMW ConnectedDrive infotainment features. The new
car therefore meets the highest - not to mention the broadest -
expectations of driving pleasure in a large, premium 2+2-seater in
incomparable style.

Its unmistakable design language gives the new
BMW 6-Series Coupe an aura of athletic elegance. The sweeping bonnet,
short front overhang and set-back passenger compartment team up with a
74-millimetre increase in body length (4,894 mm) over its predecessor
and a 75-millimetre longer wheelbase (2,855 mm) to create the hallmark
proportions of a BMW Coupe. Meanwhile, the extra width of the new car -
it is now 39 millimetres wider (at 1,894 mm) thanks to its increased
track width - makes for an exceptionally powerful stance that emphasises
its impressive roadholding. All of which ensures that observers are
struck by the car's dynamic forward-surging presence and promise of
majestic driving ability the moment they set eyes on it. The faithful
reflection of the car's character in its exterior styling is given
particular appeal by the lines running along the full length of the body
and its harmoniously curved surfaces. The inspiration for these design
features was the natural movement of waves. In the same way as water is
parted by an object in flowing water, the car body's shaping lines fan
out from the BMW badge on the bonnet to both sides of the body.

BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with petrol direct injection provides
both sporty power development and exceptional efficiency in the engines
available for the new BMW 6-Series Coupe from launch. In the new BMW
650i Coupe, a V8 powerplant with turbochargers positioned between the
cylinder banks develops maximum output of 300 kW/407 hp. An exclusive
feature of the 235 kW/320 hp six-cylinder in-line engine in the new BMW
640i Coupe, meanwhile, is the addition of VALVETRONIC variable valve
control. Both units are hooked up to an eight-speed Sports automatic
gearbox as standard. Also part of the standard specification is an
extensive range of BMW EfficientDynamics technology, including the Auto
Start-Stop function and ECO PRO mode (in the BMW 640i Coupe).

The
new BMW 6-Series Coupe strikes an ideal balance between dynamic handling
and ride comfort thanks to a newly developed chassis. Its standard
Electric Power Steering and optional Integral Active Steering both break
new ground in this segment. Also on the options list are Dynamic Damper
Control and the Adaptive Drive system, complete with roll
stabilisation. Drive Dynamic Control - which allows drivers to adjust
the car's set-up to their individual tastes - comes as standard in the
new BMW 6-Series Coupe.

The innovations in the new BMW 6-Series
Coupe also extend to light technology, in the shape of Adaptive LED
Headlights. Their bright white light provides an extremely intense and
evenly spread illumination of the road. This technology is unparalleled
in the segment and also allows the beam of the headlights to follow the
progression of corners. Customers can also order their Coupe with
optional LED foglamps.

Other features that set the new car apart
from its rivals are the BMW ConnectedDrive driver assistance systems and
mobility services. The rear-view camera, Surround View, Parking
Assistant, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition, Speed Limit
Info, Lane Departure Warning System and Lane Change Warning System are
joined on the list of available equipment items by the new generation of
the BMW Head-Up-Display. The latest incarnation of the system uses a
full spectrum of colours to display the information projected onto the
windscreen. The BMW iDrive control system, meanwhile, is included as
standard in the BMW 6-Series Coupe as an operating portal for the
navigation, communications and infotainment functions. Its Control
Display comes in the form of a fixed, freestanding flatscreen, which
adds an extra exclusive flourish to the generously sized and luxurious
interior. Elsewhere, the optional Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround
Sound System lays on a feast of aural pleasure seldom experienced inside
a car.

The design: commanding presence and athletic elegance.

The
new BMW 6-Series Coupe heralds the arrival of an exceptionally sporty
and exclusive 2+2-seater in the premium segment of top-class Coupes. The
new model's extra length and width over its predecessor model combine
with its 5-millimetre lower height to produce a strikingly low-set and
powerful design. The new interpretation of the traditional BMW Coupe
proportions is embellished by lines and surfaces inspired by the
movement of waves. Flowing lines and harmonious curves create a feeling
of athletic grace, complemented by extremely classy and eye-catching
design features which underline the opulent character and elegant
appearance of the two-door BMW.

The expressive front end is
dominated by the large and slightly forward-slanting BMW kidney grille.
The grille emphasises the car's sporting pedigree with a broad, flat
design, and creates a visual connection with the engine nestling behind.
The kidney grille slats, angled slightly towards the top, lend
additional emphasis to the front end's "shark nose" character. The
contour lines of the bonnet converge towards the kidney grille, forming a
V-shape which is continued by the contours of the headlights, kidney
and wide air intake to give a road-focused look. High-quality chrome
elements and the LED units of the optional foglamps positioned in front
of them guide the eye to the muscular wheel arches.

High-visibility innovation: Adaptive LED Headlights.

The
new BMW 6-Series Coupe is equipped with bi-xenon headlights as
standard. An accentuating trim element cuts across the top of the
hallmark BMW twin round headlights to produce the intent look familiar
from other BMW models. The optional Adaptive LED Headlights provide a
fresh take on this established feature. The Adaptive LED Headlights for
low beam and high beam contain LED light rings for the parking lights
and daytime running lights, which are levelled off at the lower edge and
overlapped at their top edge by an accent light - also featuring LEDs.
The result is a stunning, distinctively BMW showcase for the innovative
light technology below the surface. In addition, they also generate the
low beam and high beam light from the two light rings. The light sources
here are horizontal LED ribs positioned in the centre of the light
rings. The brand's hallmark twin round headlight look is therefore
expressed even more strikingly not only with the daytime running lights
switched on, but also when the headlights are activated in the dark.

However,
the Adaptive LED Headlights are about more than just looking good; they
also ensure the driver can see well. Their bright white light provides
an intense and even illumination of the road ahead. From a colour
perspective, the light comes much closer to natural daylight than that
created by conventional halogen or xenon headlights, lending even
reflective objects far greater contrast. The cornering element of the
Adaptive LED Headlights is also tailored to the car's speed, steering
angle and yaw rate, allowing the pivot of the headlights to adapt
automatically to the line of the corner. Meanwhile, a light source
positioned specially in the headlight housing generates the cornering
light which, at low speeds, ensures illumination of the road surface in
the direction the car is turning. LED technology is also deployed for
the direction indicators, each of which consists of eight LED units
arranged in a row underneath the light rings. As well as enhancing
visibility in the dark, the Adaptive LED Headlights thus also
significantly improve the signalling effect of the car's lights.

Side view: elegant roofline, powerfully curved surfaces.

Tightly
curved surfaces and character lines stretching the full length of the
body define the side view of the BMW 6-Series Coupe. The
forward-slanting BMW kidney grille is particularly clear from this
angle. Despite its smooth curves and innovative pedestrian protection
measures, the long bonnet still has a flat appearance. Its contour lines
fan out wide and extend towards the rear. In combination with the car's
typical Coupe proportions, this creates a particularly elegant,
elongated silhouette.

The exterior design has been inspired by
waves with clearly defined lines and volume formed around an object in
flowing water. This gives the new BMW 6-Series Coupe a naturally
powerful and sporty edge. The typical BMW swage line extends out from
behind the front wheel arch, takes in the sporty gill feature and
extends dynamically along the flank of the car to the rear. In so doing,
it stretches the new BMW 6-Series Coupe visually and lends it a dynamic
yet elegant allure. The door handles are integrated precisely into the
swage line. A further character line emerges from the swell of the front
wheel arch, before dropping down between the gill and the door and then
levelling out towards the rear, its path replicating a forward-surging
wave. The door sill line underneath it and an additional crease give the
lower edge of the body a light and sporty appearance.

The
roofline of the new BMW 6-Series Coupe also swoops in an elegant, flat
progression into the tail. It comes across as especially svelte when
viewed from the side, creating a contrast typical of BMW Coupes between
the powerful body and light passenger compartment. Doors with frameless
windows underline this impression. The chromed side window border
emphasises the "counter-swing" at the foot of the C-pillar (known as the
Hofmeister kink) with its particularly tight line.

Rear view: striking indications of dynamic and secure roadholding.

From
the rear, the new BMW 6-Series Coupe exudes power, athleticism and
solidity. Bulging wheel arches accentuate the wide track of the new car,
offering a hint of its impressive roadholding. Added to which,
horizontal lines and the broadening impression of the car's shape as you
follow it towards the rear paint a clear picture of the sporting
performance waiting to be unlocked. The slightly concave lower section
of the boot lid generates light and shade effects which lend an extra
lightness to the rear of the car. The edges of the boot lid and the
licence plate surround create a V-shape, which - similarly to the front
of the car - steers the eye towards the road. The exhaust tailpipes are
positioned on either side of a diffusor-style apron. On the BMW 650i
Coupe they are trapezoidal in shape while on the BMW 640i Coupe they are
circular.

The two-part rear light clusters display the customary
BMW L-shape in a particularly wide rendition that extends far into the
boot lid, while the swage line that flows into the rear lights forges a
harmonious link between the side and the rear of the car. Inside the
rear light clusters, two LED-powered light strips generate the familiar
BMW night-time look, an effect that is reinforced by the L-shaped lower
light unit. The direction indicators and brake lights are also
LED-powered. The wide additional brake light is located in the upper
edge of the boot lid.

Interior: driver-oriented cockpit, exclusive ambience.

The
driver-oriented cockpit layout familiar from BMW models down the years
and a dynamic forward-surging movement define the design of the
interior. The centre section of the instrument panel - including the
Control Display, the central air vent and the controls for the audio
system and climate control - is angled slightly towards the driver. The
gearshift lever is located on a surface that opens out towards the
driver and is set lower than the front passenger side of the centre
console. This structure is repeated in the central section of the
instrument panel, further enhancing the driver-focused feel. The fluent
transition between the centre console and instrument panel can be
accentuated with optional stitching in contrasting colour for the
leather surfaces.

The horizontal structuring of the instrument
panel is accentuated by an electroplated strip on the driver's side of
the cabin. This is extended into the front-passenger side in the form of
a subtle crease in the glove compartment. Meanwhile, powerfully taut
waistline surfaces - which are carried forward into the instrument panel
- embody the feeling of dynamic forward movement inside the cabin. The
decorative surface of the instrument panel extends into the centre
console with an elegant, slightly curving sweep to lend the
front-passenger side an exclusive allure.

The rear seats also
provide their passengers with a very pleasant level of touring comfort
thanks to their individual-seat character and greater shoulder and
elbowroom compared with the outgoing model. In addition, there is also
more headroom for all the passengers, despite the reduced overall height
of the car. The rear seat backrests can be specified as an option with a
through-loading facility for a ski bag, allowing two pairs of skis to
be transported in comfort. The luggage area can accommodate 460 litres
(16.24 cu. ft) of luggage, which means that the BMW 6-Series Coupe can
carry three 46-inch golf bags or two medium-sized hard-shell cases plus a
flight case.

Optimised display, exclusive feel: instruments in black-panel technology, Control Display with flatscreen design.

The
instrument cluster in black-panel technology combines state-of-the-art
display technology with classic sports-car circular instruments. A
high-resolution 9.2-inch display below the four dials includes the
mileage counter, fuel consumption and Efficient Dynamics display, as
well as feedback from the driver assistance systems and Check/Control
messages. This black-panel technology, which made its debut in the BMW
7-Series, is also used for the climate control displays in the centre
section of the instrument panel.

In addition to the Controller
with direct menu control buttons positioned on the console centre, the
standard-fitted iDrive operating system also comes with a new monitor in
exclusive flatscreen design. This freestanding Control Display is
located in a prominent and optimal position within the instrument panel,
and creates the feeling of a powerboat cockpit rising up dynamically in
front of the driver and front passenger. The central Control Display in
the new BMW 6-Series Coupe has a 7-inch-diameter screen as standard.
However, if the optional Navigation system Professional is specified,
this is upgraded to a 10.2-inch version - the largest on-board monitor
in the segment - bordered by a high-class electroplated chrome surround.

The
exterior paintwork of the new BMW 6-Series Coupe can be ordered in a
choice of eight metallic and two non-metallic shades, allowing customers
to highlight both the sporting credentials of the Coupe and its modern
and elegant character. The standard Dakota leather trim is available in
three colour variants, the optional Exclusive Nappa leather in a choice
of four shades. As an alternative to the standard Softskin surfacing,
the instrument panel, door and side panels can be specified with
Exclusive Nappa leather trim. Also, double French seams in a contrasting
colour matching the seat covers can be ordered in place of the black
French seams. The interior trim comes as standard in High-gloss Black,
but can alternatively be ordered as an option in Brushed Aluminium,
Poplar Grain Grey or American Oak high-gloss. Optional ceramic
applications for the audio system and air conditioning controls,
gearshift lever and iDrive Controller lend the interior an extra
flourish.

Outstanding seat comfort, comprehensive safety equipment, body with excellent torsional rigidity.

The
lightweight seats with integrated belt system developed for the new BMW
6-Series range are available in three variants. The integrated belt
system makes it easier both to reach the belt and to climb into the rear
of the car. The standard-fitted driver and front passenger seats boast
electric adjustment for the seat height and fore/aft position, backrest
angle and head restraint height - including memory function - as well as
seat heating and an easy-entry function to facilitate access to the
rear compartment.

The optional sports seats offer optimal lateral
support with their raised seat and backrest sides, and come fitted with
integrated head restraints as well as manually adjustable thigh support.
Comfort seats are another option, adding comfort head restraints,
lumbar support, and electric adjustment of the thigh support, backrest
width and angle of the upper backrest segment. Offering an alternative
to the standard Dakota leather upholstery is Exclusive Nappa leather
with extended features. For the sports seats and comfort seats, there is
the added option of active seat ventilation. Plus, comfort seats can
also be specified with the active seat function.

All the seat
variants available for the new BMW 6-Series Coupe come with
crash-activated head restraints. The standard safety specification also
includes front airbags, seat frame-mounted side airbags, side curtain
head airbags for both rows of seats, three-point inertiareel seatbelts
on all seats, belt force limiters and belt latch tensioners, as well as
ISOFIX child seat attachments in the rear. To optimise passive
pedestrian protection, in some national markets the new BMW 6-Series
Coupe is equipped with an active bonnet system; in the event of a
collision with a pedestrian, a pyrotechnic actuator mechanism
automatically raises the front and rear of the bonnet.

The new BMW
6-Series Coupe is fitted with robust load-path structures, precisely
defined deformation zones and an extremely rigid safety passenger cell.
These safety features ensure maximum occupant protection in all types of
collision. Carefully targeted advances in the use of materials have
increased the strength and lowered the weight of the body with the aim
of enhancing both the safety and agility of the car. Indeed, the static
torsional rigidity of the new Coupe is around 53 per cent greater than
that of its predecessor. In the interests of weight optimisation, the
doors, bonnet and front axle spring mounts are all aluminium, while the
front side panels are made from plastic and the boot lid from glass
fibre composite.

Top-class performance from eight or six cylinders: BMW TwinPower Turbo in the new BMW 6-Series Coupe.

One
V8 and one six-cylinder in-line engine are available for the new BMW
6-Series Coupe from market launch, and both can claim unique features.

These
power units are kitted out with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology,
including High Precision Injection petrol direct injection, and stand
out with their instantaneous power development, majestic in-gear
acceleration, outstanding refinement and exemplary efficiency for their
output class.

The eight-cylinder power unit in the new BMW 650i
Coupe produces maximum output of 300 kW/407 hp from its 4.4-litre
displacement between 5,500 and 6,400 rpm. This unique engine, whose
turbochargers are positioned in the V-shaped area between the cylinder
banks, produces an instantaneous and sustained wave of power, making it a
feast for the enthusiast driver. Peak torque of 600 Newton metres (443
lb-ft) is served up between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm. The sporting
performance attributes of the V8 engine enable the new BMW 650i Coupe to
accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, leaving the
engine electronics to call a halt to proceedings at 250 km/h (155 mph).
And yet the range-topping model also demonstrates extraordinary
efficiency for this output class, recording average fuel consumption of
10.4 litres per 100 kilometres (27.2 mpg imp) in the EU test cycle,
together with CO2 emissions of 243 grams per kilometre.

The new
BMW 640i Coupe is powered by a six-cylinder in-line engine in which the
BMW TwinPower Turbo technology brings both direct injection and
VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control to the table. This combination
optimises both the responsiveness and efficiency of the 3.0-litre
powerplant, which generates maximum output of 235 kW/320 hp at 5,800 rpm
and puts its peak torque of 450 Newton metres (332 lb-ft) on tap
between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm. The BMW 640i Coupe completes the sprint
from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds, and its top speed is
electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Average fuel consumption
in the EU test cycle stands at 7.7 litres per 100 kilometres (36.7 mpg
imp), while CO2 emissions come in at 179 grams per kilometre.

Standard-fitted
eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox with steering wheel shift paddles;
BMW 640i Coupe with Auto Start-Stop function.

Both the
BMW 650i Coupe and BMW 640i Coupe transfer their power to the rear
wheels via an eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox. This standard-fitted
unit enhances sporty driving with exceptionally rapid gear changes,
offers outstanding shift comfort and also optimises the efficiency of
both model variants.

The innovative gear set configuration of the
compact, low-weight automatic allows it to offer eight gears and a
correspondingly wide gear spread. This not only enhances the car's
sprinting ability, but also supports economical driving at low revs.
With its minimal converter slip and impressive inherent efficiency, the
eight-speed Sports automatic helps to ensure efficient power
transmission. And the driver can also change gear manually using the
shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel.

Extensive BMW
EfficientDynamics technology also plays its part in cutting fuel
consumption and emissions in the new BMW 6-Series Coupe. Among the
systems fitted as standard are Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power
Steering (EPS), the on-demand operation of ancillary components,
intelligent lightweight construction and low-rolling-resistance tyres.
The new BMW 640i Coupe is also fitted with automatic active air flap
control and the Auto Start-Stop function. When the driver draws to a
standstill at junctions or in a traffic jam, the engine is automatically
switched off to prevent unnecessary fuel consumption at idle. As soon
as the driver releases the brake pedal, the engine starts up again. If
the driver is using the Auto Hold function, the engine is restarted when
the accelerator is depressed.

Another innovation also helps
smooth the way to particularly low fuel consumption while on the move. A
touch of the Drive Dynamic Control button allows BMW 640i Coupe drivers
to activate ECO PRO mode and unlock additional efficiency-boosting
potential. ECO PRO mode tweaks the engine management, the accelerator
mapping and the shift characteristics of the automatic gearbox to favour
a consciously relaxed and frugal driving style at low engine revs. At
the same time, efficient power usage for electrically operated functions
such as the climate control system and the seat and exterior mirror
heating ensures extremely efficient in-car energy management. Special
readouts in the instrument cluster and Control Display keep the driver
informed on the levels of energy efficiency currently being achieved, as
well as keeping a record for the journey up to that point, and
encourage a driving style that minimises fuel consumption. For example,
the increase in range achieved by using ECO PRO mode is shown in
kilometres.

Advanced chassis technology and optional Adaptive Drive deliver the perfect balance of sports performance and comfort.

The
driving experience in the new BMW 6-Series Coupe is defined by sporty
handling characteristics. However, the cutting-edge chassis technology
of the two-door car also delivers impressive ride comfort. Both the
double wishbone front axle and the integral rear axle are made
predominantly from aluminium. The chassis set-up is geared to the
requirements of drivers with sporting intentions, although the dampers
also respond sensitively to bumps in the road surface under high lateral
acceleration.

Available as options for both model variants are
Dynamic Damper Control and the Adaptive Drive system, which also
includes Dynamic Drive active roll stabilisation. The electronically
controlled dampers adapt to both the nature of the road surface and the
driver's style to prevent unwanted movements in the car body, while an
innovative damping system adjusts the compression and rebound settings
continuously and independently from one another. For example, a stiff
chassis setting can be impressively combined with comfortable responses
to unevenness in the road surface. The roll stabilisation feature also
reduces effects such as body roll in high-speed corners and under sudden
changes in direction.

Unmatched in the segment: Electric Power Steering as standard, Integral Active Steering optional.

The
Electric Power Steering system with Servotronic function delivering
speed-sensitive power assistance is unique in the BMW 6-Series Coupe
segment and combines customary BMW precision, comfort and efficiency. In
contrast to conventional mechanical/hydraulic systems, the power
assistance is provided by an electric motor, which only goes to work -
and therefore uses energy - if power assistance is required or desired
by the driver.

In addition, the new BMW 6-Series Coupe is the
first car in its class that can be ordered, as an option, with Integral
Active Steering. This system combines the Active Steering system for the
front axle - already available for the predecessor model - with a
steering rear axle, allowing the steering angle and power assistance to
be controlled at both the front and the rear with the help of electric
motors. Precisely harmonised wheel deflections pave the way for
extraordinary agility in dynamic driving situations. Also, Integral
Active Steering displays an impressively deft touch around twisty
mountain passes and in city traffic. At speeds of up to 60 km/h (37
mph), the rear wheels are turned in the opposite direction to the
steering angle of the front wheels. This has the effect of reducing the
car's turning circle and the amount of steering effort required. At
higher speeds, Integral Active Steering gives the car extremely
comfortable and assured reactions when changing lanes and cornering. The
rear wheels follow the same steering movements as the front wheels,
enabling the car to follow the course set by the driver with even
greater immediacy and precision.

Drive Dynamic Control gives the driver the choice of car set-up.

With
Drive Dynamic Control, the virtues of sportiness and comfort can take
precedence as the situation demands. Drivers can make their own choice
of suspension settings in NORMAL, SPORT and SPORT+ modes using a button
on the centre console. In the new BMW 640i Coupe, ECO PRO mode can also
be activated. If the Dynamic Damper Control or Adaptive Drive option has
been specified, the COMFORT setting can also be used. In this mode, as
well as adjusting the accelerator pedal progression, engine responses,
power steering characteristics, DSC response thresholds and the shift
dynamics of the automatic gearbox, Drive Dynamic Control also tweaks the
damper responses and, if necessary, the roll stabilisation settings. On
cars also fitted with Integral Active Steering, the basic steering
set-up is also adjusted according to the mode selected, as well as the
level of power assistance. As a result, in SPORT and SPORT+ modes the
car's sporting responses are sharpened even further.

The
lightweight, floating-calliper brakes with inner-vented discs are easy
to use with precision, and their effectiveness is reinforced by Dynamic
Stability Control (DSC). This driving stability system brings together
technology such as the anti-lock braking system (ABS), Dynamic Traction
Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control
(DBC), the Start-Off Assistant, the automatic Brake Drying function and
brake fade compensation. Standard equipment also includes 18-inch
light-alloy wheels on the new BMW 650i Coupe or 17-inch rims for the new
BMW 640i Coupe, as well as runflat tyres and a runflat indicator.

Exclusively
from BMW ConnectedDrive: a wide range of driver assistance systems,
including BMW Head-Up Display with a full spectrum of colours.

The
selection of driver assistance systems and mobility services available
from BMW ConnectedDrive for the new BMW 6-Series Coupe is even broader
than that enjoyed by its predecessor. These systems and services enable
the intelligent link-up of the driver and car with the outside world,
enhancing both comfort and safety and the use of the car's infotainment
features. Among the options largely unmatched in this vehicle category
are the Lane Change Warning System, Lane Departure Warning System, Speed
Limit Info, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition, the rear-view
camera, Surround View and the BMW Parking Assistant. Innovative
technologies optimise the integration of the Apple iPhone and other
smartphones, as well as music players. And, in addition to internet
access, BMW ConnectedDrive also allows email messages received on a
smartphone to be shown on the Control Display, as well as the use of
internet-based services for navigation and entertainment. Other
functions not offered by the new Coupe's rivals include the
location-based telephone information service from BMW Assist and the
Advanced Emergency Call function with automatic vehicle location and
accident severity detection.

The optional BMW Head-Up Display -
which projects important information onto the windscreen, directly in
the driver's line of sight - remains the only system of its kind in the
segment. And the latest generation of this BMW innovation is now
available in the new BMW 6-Series Coupe. For the first time, a full
spectrum of colours is used to display graphics and symbols, making road
sign symbols, for example, impressively realistic. At the same time,
the Head-Up Display is now able to present a wider range of information.
Depending on vehicle specification, the following can be shown in the
Head-Up Display: High Guiding function information supplied by the
navigation system, information from the Speed Limit Info system,
Check/Control messages, status messages from the Lane Departure Warning
System and warnings from the BMW Night Vision system.

Top-class comfort features: Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System delivers an unparalleled audio experience.

The
standard-fitted comfort-enhancing features on board the new BMW
6-Series Coupe include 2-zone climate control, a multifunction steering
wheel, electric steering column adjustment, electrically adjustable and
heated exterior mirrors, Cruise Control with braking function, a rain
sensor with integrated automatic driving lights control, and a HiFi
audio system complete with nine speakers, MP3-compatible CD drive and
AUX-IN connection. Meanwhile, technology such as a DVD changer, TV
module, DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) receiver and USB audio
interface allows passengers to enjoy their personal choice of on-board
entertainment.

When it comes to delivering audio pleasure of the
highest order, the Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System
designed especially for the new BMW 6-Series Coupe hits all the right
notes. Jointly developed by the Danish audio specialists and BMW, this
system produces an exceptionally natural sound from 16 speakers
distributed around the cabin. It is a fully active system featuring
digital signal processing, which means the two bass speakers, seven
mid-range speakers and seven tweeters all have individual amplifiers.
This technology enables the targeted modification of any sound
reflections inside the vehicle. The Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround
Sound System uses Di-rac Dimensions™ technology to recreate the
acoustics of a reference listening room in the passenger compartment.
All vehicle occupants therefore enjoy the same high-quality sound stage
wherever they are sitting.

The electrical signals are converted
into precisely defined sound waves using neodymium magnet drivers, and
the mid-range speakers feature extremely stiff Hexacone diaphragms. The
outstanding quality of the Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound
System is underlined by exclusive design features. The form and colour
of the advanced all-aluminium speaker grilles have been tailored
precisely to the interior design of the new BMW 6-Series Coupe. The
special perforation pattern of the grilles is created using a very
sophisticated drilling technique. The grille mounts are not visible from
the outside, ensuring that the grilles stand out from their
surroundings by appearing to float in a slightly raised position above
the surface. This exclusive ambience is further enhanced by a discreet
lighting effect, which showcases the contours of the sound sources with a
subtly impressive effect. A both visually and acoustically significant
innovation, meanwhile, is the novel design of the centre speaker in the
instrument panel area, which uses Acoustic Lens Technology developed by
Bang & Olufsen to provide a particularly harmonious sound. As soon
as the audio system is activated, the central element containing the
integrated mid-range speaker pops up, prompting the tweeter lens to be
extended at the same time. The tweeter lens distributes its signals
evenly at 180 degrees throughout the interior. This extraordinarily
harmonious horizontal dispersion of sound is achieved through the
special design of the lens, which also minimises unwanted vertical sound
dispersion.

Among the other highlights on the options list are
Adaptive Headlights, a heated steering wheel, Comfort Access and the
electrically operated panoramic sunroof with tilt function, whose glass
cover - with a clear surface spanning 806 x 578 millimetres - spreads
across almost the full width of the car. The optional Navigation system
Professional, featuring a hard disk for storing maps and personal music
collections, uses the high-resolution graphics of the Control Display to
give a particularly detailed overview of the region the car is
currently travelling through. As an alternative to the map display in
full-screen mode, the driver can also make use of assistance windows. In
addition, the High Guiding function with integrated lane recommendation
transfers detailed views from the screen directly to the instrument
cluster or, optionally, to the BMW Head-Up Display.

The BMW 6-Series Coupe: a sports car boasting outstanding dynamics and a fascinating heritage.

The
BMW brand's large Coupe once again embodies the essence of dynamic
capability and exclusive driving pleasure in a stylish and luxurious
two-door design. The new BMW 6-Series Coupe represents the latest
chapter in a story which now stretches back more than 70 years, a
heritage enriched by legendary motor racing glories and numerous icons
of automotive design. The unmistakable characteristics which marked out
the BMW 327, BMW 503, BMW 3200 CS, BMW 2000 CS and the large Coupes based on the BMW 3.0 CSi - and which since 1976 have been perpetuated by the BMW 6-Series
models - can now be enjoyed once again in a fresh interpretation
inspired by the future. And so the new BMW 6-Series Coupe reprises the
role of trailblazer in terms of aesthetics, dynamics and innovative
technology, and provides the perfect next instalment in the tradition of
inspirational dream cars from BMW.

The new BMW 6-Series Coupe will be built alongside the new BMW 6-Series Convertible at BMW's Dingolfing plant. The BMW Group's largest production plant also produces the BMW 7-Series and BMW 5-Series.
The flexible and efficient manufacturing processes at the plant combine
state-of-the-art production technology with a quality standard
underpinned by unbeatable precision craftsmanship in the construction of
customer-configured premium cars.

SOURCE:NETCARSHOW

In the shape of the new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé, Mercedes-AMG is
presenting an autonomous, high-performance car that appeals to all the
senses. Distinctive design is combined with a powerful drive package and
dynamic handling. The new coupé joins the successful C-Class
AMG family, which includes the classic saloon as well as the practical
estate model. The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé also enhances the AMG
family of coupés: in addition to the CLS63 AMG and the CL63 AMG,
Mercedes-AMG GmbH is now able to offer another dream car featuring a
high-performance eight-cylinder engine. The market launch commences in
July 2011. Looking particularly attractive is the "Edition 1" of the
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé, available from launch with exclusive
equipment.

The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine in the Mercedes-Benz C63
AMG coupé delivers a maximum output of 336 kW (457 hp) and peak torque
of 600 Newton metres for outstanding performance: the coupé is capable
of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and the top speed is
250 km/h (electronically limited). With this kind of specification, the
new two-door vehicle is set to take the lead in its segment.

The new coupé variant benefits from all the technology updates that have been adopted on the C63 AMG saloon and estate
models. Deploying the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission
with "Controlled Efficiency" mode as standard and a new power steering
pump reduces fuel consumption: the combined NEDC figure for the
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé is 12.0 l/100 km.

AMG performance package for a maximum output of 358 kW (487 hp)

This
fuel consumption figure also applies to the performance version
generating 358 kW (487 hp) courtesy of the AMG performance package.
Available as an option, this package improves acceleration from 0 to 100
km/h to 4.4 seconds, with technology transferred from the SLS AMG
responsible for the 22 kW (30 hp) increase in output. The forged
pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft adopted from the
gull-wing model's high-tech drive system save three kilograms in weight.
This reduces inertia and enhances the agility and responsiveness of the
high-revving, eight-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. Visually, the
AMG performance package can be identified by the variable intake
manifold in titanium grey under the bonnet, the AMG high-performance
braking system with composite front discs and red painted brake
callipers all round, the carbon fibre spoiler lip on the boot lid and
the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather with an Alcantara®
grip area.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission as standard

The
AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission provides direct and
dynamic power delivery. Rather than using a torque converter, it has a
compact, wet start-off clutch which reduces the losses associated with a
conventional automatic transmission and thereby significantly lowers
fuel consumption. Another major factor is the Controlled Efficiency "C"
mode: by providing early, comfortable upshifts while maintaining the
lowest possible engine speed and "soft" accelerator characteristics, the
AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission helps the driver achieve
better fuel economy figures.

The exclusive Mercedes-AMG power
transmission is compelling because it offers a high level of variability
and inspiring dynamism. The "S", "S+" and "M" modes deliver increased
agility and are selected via the new rotary control established on the
SLS AMG. Faster gear changes and higher revs add to the driver's
emotional experience and double-declutching is active in "S", "S+" and
"M" modes, boosting enjoyment further. Gear changes in the "S+" and "M"
modes take just 100 milliseconds. The RACE START function allows the
driver to explore the vehicle's full acceleration capability.

Specific AMG sports suspension for great dynamism and ride comfort

It
is not just the engine and power transmission which influence the
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé's dynamic quality - the AMG sports
suspension and AMG high-performance braking system are also key here.
Departing from the standard suspension, the top-of-the-range AMG model
has a separate three-link front suspension, a reinforced multi-link
independent rear suspension and a wider track all round. The stiffer
elastokinematics, the autonomous axle kinematics with more negative
camber all round and anti-roll bars with a larger cross-section result
in higher agility and greater lateral acceleration. Specially adjusted
spring and damper rates have optimised both the responsiveness of the
suspension as well as the road roar and tyre vibration characteristics.

The
AMG speed-sensitive sports steering with a direct ratio (13.5 : 1)
affords excellent road feel and contributes to the agile, direct driving
experience. This is complemented perfectly by three-stage ESP®: the
Electronic Stability Program enables three individual control strategies
to be accessed at the touch of a button. The driver can use the ESP®
switch on the centre console to choose between ESP ON, ESP SPORT and ESP
OFF modes. The AMG high-performance braking system with internally
ventilated and perforated discs all-round ensures outstanding
responsiveness, short stopping distances and high resistance to fading.

Confident and athletic: the design of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé

Visually, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé has a confident, athletic presence that is reminiscent of the high-performance SL63 AMG roadster.
All AMG-specific design features have been skilfully combined with
classic coupé proportions. This compact two-door car has an exciting low
profile, powerful shoulderline and a narrow C-pillar. Other key styling
aspects are the short overhang, long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen
and long, stretched out roof.

As is typical for AMG, the car has a
striking, arrow-shaped front section with the new AMG front apron
including a lower cross strut painted in high-gloss black, AMG-specific
LED daytime running lights and side air outlets. The large Mercedes star
sits on a wing-shaped transverse louvre in the new radiator grille and,
in conjunction with the modified aluminium bonnet with its powerdomes,
underlines the impression of masculinity that the car exudes. Another
eye-catching feature is the new clear-lens headlamps, especially when
the optional Intelligent Light System (ILS) is also specified.

The
wide front wing bearing the "6.3 AMG" legend, AMG side sill panels and
the new 5-twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey
with a high-gloss finish dominate the side view. Good contact with the
road is provided by the wide 235/40 R 18 (front) and 255/35 R 18 (rear)
tyres.

At the rear, the unique AMG rear apron has a distinctive,
black diffuser insert and three pronounced diffuser fins. The two
chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system also attract
attention

.

High-quality, dynamic interior

On
opening the door of the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé, passengers enter a
specially designed, dynamic interior of quality. The dashboard
instrument panel with integrated screen immediately recalls the new
CLS63 AMG. Three sporty, separate round instruments provide information
on speed, engine rpm, fuel level and coolant temperature. Other display
options are incorporated into the AMG main menu. This can be accessed
via the multifunctional buttons on the steering wheel. Located in the
middle of the speedometer, the colour, three-dimensional TFT display
welcomes the driver by showing an AMG logo when the ignition is switched
on.

The specially shaped AMG performance steering wheel has been
adopted from the CLS63 AMG. It has flattened top and bottom sections, a
metallic trim element, grip areas which are trimmed in perforated
leather, and aluminium shift paddles. Trim elements in high-gloss, black
piano lacquer on the dashboard instrument panel, centre console and
doors emphasise high quality. Situated on the centre console is the
rotary control for selecting the C, S, S+, M transmission modes and RACE
START.

The new AMG sports seats with integral head restraints,
EASY-ENTRY system and high-quality AMG badges have a sporty design with
horizontal seamlines. Combined ARTICO/DINAMICA black upholstery comes as
standard. DINAMICA is a new type of breathable man-made fibre which is
pleasant to the touch and is characterised by low emissions and a high
degree of lightfastness. The side bolsters of the AMG sports seats are
covered in ARTICO while the centre panels of the seat cushions are
upholstered with DINAMICA. The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé is a fully
fledged four-seater with the rear seats featuring the same style of
horizontal seamlines as the AMG sports seats. To enlarge the luggage
compartment, the backrests in the rear can each be folded down as
standard.

Available as an option, designo leather appointments
give the interior a particularly exclusive character: four single
colours and three two-tone combinations are available. These can also be
complemented with "extended black designo leather appointments" for the
top section of the dashboard.

Other attractive optional
appointments are also exclusively available for the Mercedes-Benz C63
AMG coupé from the AMG Performance Studio:

AMG five-spoke
light-alloy wheels, painted in titanium grey with a high-gloss finish,
with 235/40 R 18 (front) and 255/35 R 18 (rear) tyres

AMG
multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, painted in titanium grey with a
high-gloss finish, with 235/35 R 19 (front) and 255/30 R 19 (rear) tyres

AMG
multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, painted in matt black with a high-gloss
finish on the rim flange, with 235/35 R 19 (front) and 255/30 R 19
(rear) tyres

AMG Exterior Carbon Fibre package

AMG rear axle differential lock

AMG trim elements in carbon fibre/high-gloss black piano lacquer

Illuminated AMG door sill panels

AMG floor mats

High level of safety and new assistance systems

With
seven airbags as standard, belt tensioners and belt-force limiters for
all seats, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé has extensive safety
features. The airbags, which can deploy in milliseconds in the event of
an accident, include front airbags and sidebags for the driver and front
passenger, a kneebag on the driver's side, and windowbags. The side
protection system - comprising windowbag and sidebag - optimises the
level of protection afforded to individual parts of the body.

With
a number of driving assistance systems ranging from ATTENTION ASSIST
drowsiness detection to DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control, the
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé provides a comprehensive level of driver
support and protection. The assistance systems are familiar from the
flagship S-Class
and are based on the latest radar, camera and sensor technology. They
cover frequent accident causes such as driving too closely, fatigue and
darkness.

Assistance systems at a glance:

ABS anti-lock braking system (standard)

Adaptive Highbeam Assist (optional)

Active Lane Keeping Assist (optional)

Active Blind Spot Assist (optional)

ATTENTION ASSIST (standard)

DISTRONIC PLUS including BAS PLUS (optional)

Electronic Stability Program ESP® (standard)

Headlamp Assist (standard)

Speed Limit Assist (optional)

Intelligent Light Systems ILS (optional)

PARKTRONIC including Parking Guidance (optional)

PRE-SAFE® (optional)

PRE-SAFE® Brake (optional)

Lane Keeping Assist (optional)

Cruise control with SPEEDTRONIC variable speed control (standard)

Blind Spot Assist (optional)

The new telematics generation featuring enhanced ease of operation

The
Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupé also features a new telematics generation
which received its global premiere on the saloon and estate models.
Major new features include greater operating convenience, larger
displays, phone book transfer, display of SMS messages, wireless music
reproduction via Bluetooth and a USB interface now accommodated in the
centre armrest.

The multimedia system COMAND Online now provides
internet access for the first time. When the car is stationary,
customers are able to browse freely or surf to a Mercedes-Benz Online
service whose pages load particularly rapidly and are also easy to use
while on the move. The integrated services include weather information
and a special destination search via Google, as well as the option of
downloading a route that has been previously configured on a PC using
Google Maps and sent to the car. The navigation system of COMAND Online
also has added functions. New features include a 3D display with plastic
city views. Also new: routes covered can be recorded and repeated
later, specific personal destinations can be saved or imported via an SD
card and four alternative routes can be displayed on the navigation
map, one of them a particularly economical variation.

The Becker®
MAP PILOT makes a low-cost navigation function, which can also be
retrofitted, available for the entry-level Audio 20 CD radio. Its
advantages over aftermarket solutions include integrated operation via
the central controls and the Audio 20 display, a concealed location in
the glove compartment and updating via an internet portal.

Specially designed, premium quality "Edition 1"

As
for the CLS63 AMG, an "Edition 1" of the new C63 AMG coupé is also
available. The Edition 1 features exciting, premium quality interior
details that have been specially designed: the AMG sports seats, door
centre panels and armrests come in black designo leather with
contrasting porcelain seams on the sports seats. To match this, the trim
parts have a porcelain piano-lacquer look and the two-tone AMG
performance steering wheel sets black nappa leather off with a lower
section in porcelain designo leather. An "Edition 1" badge on the trim
indicates this version's singularity. AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy
wheels painted in matt black make the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupé
Edition 1 look equally special on the outside. As an option, the
standard metallic paintwork can be swapped for a matt finish in designo
magno night black or diamond white metallic BRIGHT.

SOURCE:NETCARSHOW

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

With the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, Automobili Lamborghini is
redefining the very pinnacle of the world super sports car market -
brutal power, outstanding lightweight engineering and phenomenal
handling precision are c

ombined with peerless design and the very finest
equipment to deliver an unparalleled driving experience. With the
Aventador, Lamborghini is taking a big step into the future - and
building on the glorious history of the brand with the next automotive
legend. The first customers will take delivery of the new Lamborghini
Aventador LP700-4 in late summer 2011.

The technology package of
the Lamborghini Aventador LP70

0-4 is utterly unique. It is based on an
innovative monocoque made from carbon-fiber that combines exceptional
lightweight engineering with the highest levels of stiffness and safety.
The new twelve-cylinder with 6.5 liters' displacement and 515 kW / 700
hp brings together the ultimate in high-revving pleasure with
astonishing low-end torque. Thanks to a dry weight of only 1,575
kilograms (3,472 lb), which is extremely low for this class of vehicle,
the weight-to-power ratio stands at only 2.25 kilograms per hp (4.96
lb/hp). Even the fantastic 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration figure of
just 2.9 seconds and the top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) do not fully
describe the Aventador's extreme performance. And yet, fuel consumption
and CO2 emissions are down by around 20 percent compared with its
predecessor, despite the considerable increase in power (+8%).

The ISR transmission is unique among road-going vehicles,
guaranteeing the fastest shifting time (only 50 milliseconds) and a
highly emotional shift feel, while the lightweight chassis with pushrod
suspension delivers absolute handling precision and competition-level
performance. The expressively-designed interior offers hi-tech features
ranging from the TFT cockpit display with Drive Select Mode system. The
Aventador will be built to the very highest quality standards in an
all-new production facility in Sant'Agata Bolognese.

"With the
Aventador LP700-4, the future of the super sports car is now part of the
present. Its exceptional package of innovative technologies is unique,
its performance simply overwhelming," says Stephan Winkelmann, President
and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "The Aventador is a jump of two
generations in terms of design and technology, it's the result of an
entirely new project, but at the same time it's a direct and consistent
continuation of Lamborghini's brand values. It is extreme in its design
and its performance, uncompromising in its standards and technology, and
unmistakably Italian in its style and perfection. Overall, the dynamics
and technical excellence of the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 makes it
unrivalled in the worldwide super sports car arena."

Aventador: the name of one of the most courageous of all bulls

According
to its tradition, Lamborghini's new flagship bears the name of a bull -
naturally, a particularly courageous specimen from the world of the
Spanish Corrida. Aventador was the name of a bull that entered into
battle in October 1993 at the Saragossa Arena, earning the "Trofeo de la
Peña La Madroñera" for its outstanding courage.

A sculpture of extreme dynamics

For
Lamborghini, design is always the beauty of aggressive power, the
elegance of breathtaking dynamics. From the very first glance, the new
Aventador is unmistakably a Lamborghini, clothed in the brand's
characteristic and distinctive design language - with its extremely
powerful proportions, its exact lines and precise surfaces, and with
taut muscularity in every one of its details. The designers in the
Centro Stile Lamborghini have carefully developed this design language
to give the Lamborghini Aventador a significant new edge. It is an
avantgarde work of art, an incredibly dynamic sculpture, from the
sharply honed front end through the extremely low roofline to the
distinctive rear diffuser. Every line has a clear function, every form
is dictated by its need for speed, yet the overall look is nothing less
than spectacular and breathtaking.

The doors open upward - of course

Truly
impressive proportions come from an overall length of 4,78 meters
(188.19 in.) matched with an impressive width of 2,26 meters (88.98 in.)
including the exterior mirrors, and further accentuated by an extremely
low height of just 1.136 mm (44.72 in.). It goes without saying that
both doors of the carbon-fiber monocoque open upward - a feature that
was first introduced in the now legendary Countach and then used for
subsequent V12 models such as Diablo and Murciélago.
However, the Aventador also evokes its immediate predecessor the
Murciélago - electronically managed air intakes open depending on the
outdoor temperature and the need for cooling air, ensuring maximum
aerodynamic efficiency. And for those whishing to flaunt the heart of
their Lamborghini, the optional transparent engine bonnet exhibits the
twelve-cylinder engine like a technical work of art in a display case.

Exclusive and high-tech interior

The
Aventador's spacious interior combines the fine exclusivity of premium
materials and perfect Italian craftsmanship with state-of-the-art
technology and generous equipment. The red switch cover on the broad
center tunnel encloses the start button used to awaken the
twelve-cylinder. The interior is dominated by a next-generation
dashboard - as in a modern airplane, the instruments are presented on a
TFT-LCD screen using innovative display concepts. A second screen is
dedicated to the standard-fit multimedia and navigation system.

Carbon-fiber monocoque

The
new Lamborghini flagship has a full monocoque. The entire occupant
cell, with tub and roof, is one single physical component. This ensures
extreme rigidity and thus outstanding driving precision, as well as an
extremely high level of passive safety for the driver and his passenger.
The entire monocoque weighs only 147.5 kilograms (325.18 lb).

The
monocoque, together with the front and rear Aluminium frames, features
an impressive combination of extreme torsional stiffness of 35,000
Newton meters per degree and weighs only 229.5 kilograms (505.9 lb).

Maximum revs, amazing sound

For
the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, the engineers in Lamborghini's
R&D Department have developed a completely new high-performance
power unit - an extremely powerful and high-revving, but very compact
power unit. At 235 kilograms (518 lb), it is also extremely lightweight.
A V12 with 515 kW (700 hp) at 8,250 rpm sets a whole new benchmark,
even in the world of super sports cars. The maximum torque output is 690
Newton meters (509 lb-ft) at 5,500 rpm. The extremely well-rounded
torque curve, the bull-like pulling power in every situation, the
spontaneous responsiveness and, last but not least, the finely modulated
but always highly emotional acoustics are what make this engine a
stunning power plant of the very highest order.

Innovative transmission for maximum performance

Engineers
at Lamborghini have created the perfect mate for the new
twelve-cylinder engine with the highly innovative ISR (Independent
Shifting Rods) transmission. The development objective was clearly
formulated - to build not only the fastest robotized gearbox, but also
to create the world's most emotional gear shift. Compared with a
dual-clutch transmission, not only is the ISR gearbox much lighter, it
also has smaller dimensions than a conventional manual unit - both key
elements in the field of lightweight engineering for super sports cars.

Refined and safe with all-wheel drive

This
kind of extreme power must be delivered reliably to the road. The
driver of the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 can depend fully on its
permanent all-wheel drive - indicated by the 4 in the model designation.
In the driveline, an electronically controlled Haldex coupling
distributes the forces between front and rear. In a matter of
milliseconds, this coupling adapts the force distribution to match the
dynamic situation. A self-blocking rear differential together with a
front differential electronically controlled by ESP make for even more
dynamic handling. The Drive Select Mode System enables the driver to
choose vehicle characteristics (engine, transmission, differential,
steering and dynamic control) from three settings - Strada (road), Sport
and Corsa (track) - to suit his individual preferences.

Pushrod suspension

Lamborghini
has equipped its new V12 super sports car with an innovative and highly
sophisticated suspension concept. The pushrod spring and damper concept
was inspired by Formula 1 and tuned perfectly to meet the needs of a
high-performance road-going vehicle. Together with aluminum double
wishbone suspension and a carbon-fiber ceramic brake system, this
lightweight chassis represents a further aspect of the new flagship's
unique technology concept.

Extensive assistance and safety systems

In
the hands of its driver, the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 is a
high-precision machine - spontaneous, direct and always reliable. The
driver is also assisted by the latest electronic systems such as the
incredibly sporty, adjustable ESP system. When it comes to passive
safety, front, head-thorax and knee airbags play their part alongside
the extremely stiff carbon-fiber cell.

A rich and wide-ranging individualization program

A
Lamborghini should always fit perfectly with the style and preferences
of its owner. To this end, the range of individualization options is
virtually inexhaustible. There is a selection of 13 production paint
colors to choose from, three of which are highly sophisticated matt
tones. A choice of two-tone interiors are offered with the "Sportivo"
and "Elegante" versions, while a premium audio system and reversing
camera are among the many technology options. And of course, the "Ad
Personam" individualization program knows no limits when it comes to
colors and materials.

The Design

Every
Lamborghini is an avantgarde work of art, a fast-moving technical
sculpture. Every line, every detail of a super sports car from
Sant'Agata is derived from its function - namely speed, dynamics,
performance. Every Lamborghini is a purist's dream, reduced to its very
essence.

With the new Aventador LP700-4, the designers at the
Centro Stile Lamborghini in Sant'Agata Bolognese have taken this
committed philosophy to a whole new level - its extreme, razor-sharp
lines portray a precision that is without parallel in automotive design.
And its clean, taut and expertly executed surfaces demonstrate the
exceptional competence and depth of experience possessed by Lamborghini
in carbon-fiber body shell design.

The surface of the roof has a
new geometry that provides greater spaciousness for the passengers while
at the same time giving relief to the lines of the front section. This
also addresses the aim of obtaining a better aerodynamic coefficient,
continuing Lamborghini's design philosophy of 'form follows function'.

The engine cover utilizes the same styling giving continuity to the concept.

Inspiration from aeronautics

For
the further development of the Lamborghini design language, designers
pulled their inspiration from another sphere dominated by speed and
dynamics - from modern aeronautics, from the world's fastest and most
agile aircraft. This gave rise to a design of maximum functionality and
spectacular sharpness, an extremely precise and highly technical design
language with a new kind of vitality. Powerfully defined lines and taut
surfaces create a fascinating interplay of light and shade, endowing the
car with tremendous visual movement. The limited edition Reventón - a
work of automotive art - and the Sesto Elemento 'technology
demonstrator' were forerunners of this philosophy: the Aventador is the
first Lamborghini series production car embodying this vision.

The
Aventador, of course, also follows the mid-engine concept, with the
vehicle weight concentrated around the vertical axis to reduce inertia
and optimize dynamics. With the legendary Countach, Lamborghini was a
pioneer of mid-engine construction, its revolutionary concept bringing
racing technology to the road. The design of the Lamborghini Aventador
adds visual emphasis to the mid-engine layout, with a look that
concentrates its power on the rear axle.

Aerodynamic efficiency is crucial

For
such an extremely powerful automobile, the most crucial task of the
body shell design is aerodynamic efficiency: the optimum airflow for
absolute stability at all speeds and, at the same time, optimum cooling
for the engine. On the Aventador, all aerodynamic elements are
integrated into the body shell form, from the front spoiler to the rear
diffuser. A key role is played by the flat, optimized underbody. The
rear spoiler is deployable and controlled electronically. At rest, it
lies flush with the rear of the vehicle; in operation, it has two
positions - the approach angle of 4 degrees is optimized for high speed
and assists directional stability at the very top end of the spectrum.
The tilt of 11 degrees, on the other hand, delivers considerably greater
downforce at mid-range speeds, helping to optimize handling and
stability. The car uses dynamic parameters to calculate for itself the
most appropriate tilt angle.

Impressive proportions, mighty air intakes

The
first striking impression of the Lamborghini Aventador focuses on its
proportions. At a length of 4.78 meters (188.19 in.), it is a truly
impressive 2.26 meters (88.98 in.) wide including exterior mirrors, but
only 1,136 meters (44.72 in.) high. The impression of width is further
emphasized by the widely spaced air intakes and headlamp units.

The
Aventador's incredibly low front takes on a distinct arrow form, with
the Lamborghini bull insignia gracing both the point and the center
line, which continues its path along the entire length of the vehicle.
The air guides are powerfully profiled and further emphasized by their
glossy, black frames. The bi-xenon headlamps are clustered with the LED
units for daytime running lights and indicators beneath hexagonal
casings. The daytime running light comes from LED light guides that wrap
around the main headlamp in a Y form. Seven further LEDs provide the
light source for the indicator.

Two strokes define the side line

The
extremely long side view is dominated by the very low roofline and by
two sweeping strokes - the first emphasizes the front wheel arch; the
second, very sharply drawn line begins at the front wheel arch and runs
like a tensed muscle along the entire side of the car and over the rear
wheel. The deeply recessed door and the mighty sill bear further
testimony to the determined functionality of the Lamborghini design.
Ultimately, these forms serve only one purpose - to deliver the maximum
volume of cooling air to the mighty V12 power plant. The large air
intakes behind the upward-opening doors are also enclosed in black
plastic frames and guarded by a fine mesh. The engine air intake is
located on the roof pillar, behind the third side window. And when
cooling requirements are particularly high, additional air channels open
up on the rear wheel arches.

The rear end, too, is dominated by
openings framed in black, where the hot air finds its exit. The entire
rear end is highly three-dimensional in its design. The lower diffuser
stands in powerful relief, while the substantial format of the hexagonal
tail pipe symbolizes the concentrated potency of the engine. The rear
lights in LED technology reiterate the triple Y motive already familiar
from current Lamborghini models.

V12 as an object of technical beauty

Equally
familiar is the transparent engine bonnet (option), which adds a
particularly attractive dimension to the many emotional perspectives on
the Aventador. The twelve-cylinder power unit, with its mighty black
intake manifold, lies in all its technical glory beneath the three cover
panels. It is framed by diagonal carbon-fiber struts and accompanied by
the powerful dampers from the pushrod suspensions.

The design
philosophy continues into the surprisingly roomy interior. The cockpit
is upholstered entirely in fine leather and also takes on a subtle arrow
form. The controls are logically grouped on the broad center console.
Here, too, the inspiration derived from aviation is immediately apparent
- as in modern aircraft, the instruments are presented on a TFT-LCD
screen. At the center of the display is a large dial - at the touch of a
button, the driver can choose whether he would rather see the road
speed read-out or the engine speed. Further information ranging from
fuel level to the output from the on-board computer is grouped in fields
surrounding the large dial.

The operating system

The
most important switch is hidden beneath a red switch cover - the start
button, which instantly fires the high-performance engine into life.

A
second, seven-inch TFT-LCD screen in the center console belongs to the
integrated multimedia system. Beneath it is the familiar array of
Lamborghini toggle switches for operating functions such as the electric
windows or the front axle lifting system, as well as the controls for
the air conditioning.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 offers a
state-of-the-art and comprehensive lineup of electronic vehicle,
entertainment and communication systems. These functions are operated in
a clear and intuitive manner via the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) on
the center console, featuring a large push/turn control and eight
function keys.

The carbon-fiber monocoque of the Lamborghini Aventador

Lamborghini
is heading into the future with a systematic lightweight design concept
- the intensive application of carbon-fiber materials forms the key
foundation for the extreme dynamics of the new Aventador LP700-4. The
new flagship is based on a full monocoque construction made with these
innovative materials - conceived and produced entirely by Automobili
Lamborghini in Sant'Agata Bolognese.

This development sees
Lamborghini once again demonstrate its worldwide leading expertise in
carbon-fiber technology. The super sports car brand from Sant'Agata
Bolognese is the only automaker to have fully mastered the extensive
CFRP process across a range of technologies in-house - from 3D design,
through simulation, test, production and validation using
state-of-the-art industrial processes to the very highest quality
standards. With the Aventador, Lamborghini is putting its innovative,
in-house developed and patented technologies into series production for
the first time.

The cell of the future Lamborghini flagship super
sports car is made entirely from carbon fiber and has been designed as a
monocoque structure. The load-bearing structure of the vehicle is
engineered as a "single shell" that functions physically as one
component, thus taking full advantage of the extreme rigidity of CFRP.
Formula 1 race cars have been built using CFRP monocoques for many years
- and have proven their crash worthiness time and again. The same
applies to road-going sports cars featuring monocoque technology - the
carbon fiber occupant cell functions like an extremely safe roll cage.

Construction offers many advantages

Of
course, the term "single shell" applies only in the descriptive sense -
the new Lamborghini monocoque is made from a series of individual parts
with specific functions and technologies, such as stiffening elements
made from Braiding technology, that is one of the best technology to
manage energy adsorption in case of crash. After the curing process,
however, this structure functions as a single component - including the
base section known as the tub and the complete roof.

The full
monocoque solution offers advantages which other processes, like a tub
where a metal roof structure is attached in a conventional manner,
cannot realize. That's why Lamborghini made the no compromise choice of
the full monocoque, which weighs only 147.5 kilograms (324.5 lbs).

Extremely rigid construction

Superior
passive safety is only one benefit of the extreme rigidity of a full
carbon fiber monocoque - very high torsional rigidity is another. The
monocoque is connected at the front and rear with equally rigid aluminum
sub-frames, on which the suspension, engine and transmission are
mounted.

The entire body-in-white of the future V12 model weighs
only 229.5 kilograms (505 lbs) and boasts phenomenal torsional rigidity
of 35,000 Newton meters per degree of twist. This guarantees a superb
feeling of solidity, but, more importantly, extremely exact wheel
control with excellent steering precision and sensitive feedback. For
the dedicated driver, both are essential for truly enticing driving
pleasure. The new Lamborghini flagship responds to the most minute
steering input with the stunning precision of a perfectly balanced race
car.

Depending on the form, function and requirements of the
individual elements, the Lamborghini development team selected from
three main CFRP manufacturing methods within its technology tool kit.
They differ not only in their production processes, but also in the type
of carbon fiber and its weave and, most importantly, in the chemical
composition of the synthetic resin used.

Resin Transfer Moulding
(RTM): In this process the carbon fiber mats are preformed and
impregnated with an exact amount of resin. Afterwards, they are cured
under heat while the part is in the mould. Lamborghini has achieved a
major breakthrough by further developing this method. Using the patented
"RTM-Lambo" process, the final mould is no longer a heavy, complex
metal piece, but is made instead from lightweight carbon-fiber parts,
thus making the manufacturing process faster, more flexible and more
efficient.

An additional benefit of the RTM-Lambo process is the low injection pressure that doesn't require expensive equipment.

Prepreg
- The carbon fiber mats used in this method, commonly known as prepreg,
are pre-injected by the supplier with a thermosetting liquid resin and
must be stored at a low temperature. The mats are then laminated in
molds and cured under heat and pressure in an autoclave. Prepreg
components are complex to make, but have an extremely high-quality
surface finish (Class-A surface quality) and are therefore the preferred
option for use in visible locations.

Braiding - These components
are manufactured by using RTM technology. This carbon fiber weave
technology is derived from the textile industry and used to make tubular
components for special applications such as structural roof pillars and
rocker panels. The woven components are made by diagonally interweaving
the fiber in several layers.

The monocoque of the new V12 super
sports car is constructed using these technologies applied in a series
of special processes. One significant advancement Lamborghini realized
is the ability to use already-assembled monocoque elements as the mould
for the next step in the process. This makes for a considerable
simplification of the manufacturing process compared with conventional
methods.

Epoxy foam components are also used within the monocoque.
They are placed in strategic points to increase the stiffness of the
monocoque by working as spacers between the composite layers while also
dampening noise and vibration. In addition, aluminum inserts are
laminated into the front and rear surfaces to facilitate connection with
the aluminum front and rear sub-frame elements.

Because of the
complexity of the materials and process outlined above, Lamborghini
decided to produce its new monocoque completely in-house, managing one
strategic step in the production process.

Quality control is an
absolutely crucial factor - every single monocoque is measured to
exacting tolerances of only 0.1 millimeters, facilitating the extreme
precision of the overall vehicle. Quality control starts with the
purchase of the carbon fiber parts. Every delivery of carbon fiber is
certified and the material is checked regularly for compliance with
quality standards. Lamborghini worked together with its suppliers to
develop a world-exclusive fiber and resin system for its RTM technology.
Ultimately, these materials and processes constitute an important part
of Lamborghini's worldwide leading expertise in the field.

Carbon composite materials - A key technology for tomorrow's high-performance automotive engineering

These
materials made from CFRP combine the lowest possible weight with
excellent material characteristics - they are very light, extremely
rigid and exceptionally precise.

Furthermore, CFRP materials can
also be formed into highly complex components with integrated functions.
This reduces the number of individual parts when compared to
traditional metal construction - thus enabling further weight reduction.
Lighter cars have lower fuel consumption and fewer CO2 emissions. Most
significantly, however, it improves the power-to-weight ratio - the
deciding factor in the overall feel and performance of a sports car. A
super sports car built using CFRP accelerates faster, has superior
handling and better braking.

The new V12 power unit - the heart of the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

The
twelve-cylinder is the king of the engine world and the true heart of
the Lamborghini brand. The very first model created by Feruccio
Lamborghini, the 350 GT,
made its appearance in 1964 featuring a twelve-cylinder engine that was
incredibly innovative for its day. 3.5 liter displacement and 320 hp
were the vital statistics back then - they formed the basis for ongoing
increases and further development over the decades that followed. Miura, Espada, Countach,
Diablo and, finally, Murciélago are just a few of the super sports cars
born in Sant'Agata. All of them were, and will continue to be, driven
by V12 engines - and all have long since risen to the status of
automotive legend.

Now the next milestone in this glorious history
appears - engineers in the Lamborghini R&D Department have
developed a completely new high-performance power unit. That it would be
another twelve-cylinder was never in doubt - and not only because of
the special magic conjured up by the number twelve. The only real choice
for Lamborghini is a high-revving naturally aspirated engine - the
deeply reflexive and exceptionally powerful reaction of the automobile
to the tiniest movement of the driver's right foot is, of course, a key
part of the whole fascination inspired by a super sports car. Ten
cylinders are ideal in the displacement class around the five liter
mark, as evidenced by the highly acclaimed Gallardo
engine. For the 6.5 liter displacement targeted in this case, the
perfect number is twelve. A lower number of cylinders would result in
larger and heavier pistons and con-rods, which would have a negative
impact on the engine's high-revving characteristics.

Starting with a clean sheet of paper

The
specification for the development of the new twelve-cylinder, known
internally as the L539, was written quickly - yet was highly demanding
in its formulation. Naturally, it had to deliver more power and torque
than its predecessor in the Murciélago, but it should also be smaller
and lighter and enable a lower center of gravity. At the end of the day,
low weight is just as important to the performance of a super sports
car as high power output. Fuel consumption and gas emissions should also
be reduced significantly.

So the R&D team started with a
clean sheet of paper - metaphorically speaking, of course. Design and
development in Sant'Agata is conducted using state-of-the-art systems
and equipment. The outcome is a V12 with a classic cylinder bank angle
of 60 degrees, and thus an amazingly compact power package - the power
unit measures only 665 millimeters from top to bottom, including the
intake system. Its width, including the exhaust manifold, is only 848
millimeters, while its length is a mere 784 millimeters. Its weight of
235 kilograms is also respectably low - each kilogram of engine weight
corresponds to 3.0 HP maximum output.

Optimized for high revving and low weight

The
crankcase on the new power plant is made from an aluminum-silicon alloy
and has an open-deck construction with steel cylinder liners.
Displacement is 6,498 cm3 and cylinder spacing 103.5 millimeters, while
bore diameter measures 95 millimeters and stroke 76.4 millimeters. The
short-stroke layout is especially good for high-revving characteristics
and for low internal friction. Particular attention was also paid to the
bearings for the forged and nitride-hardened crankshaft, which weighs
in at 24.6 kilograms.

The two four-valve cylinder heads are
likewise made from sand-cast aluminum-silicon alloy, each weighing a
very light 21 kilograms. The twelve pistons and con-rods are,
respectively, in forged alloy and steel. The maximum piston speed at
8,250 rpm is only 21 meters per second, which is considerably less than
for the Murciélago's previous power unit. The combustion chambers were
carefully engineered to achieve optimum tumble and combustion of the
fuel/air mixture. At 11.8:1, the compression ratio is extremely high.
Inlet and outlet valve timing is electronically controlled.

Sophisticated thermal management, optimized oil circulation

The
thermal management of this high-performance power unit was perfected
with extensive detail engineering. Two switchable water circuits in the
engine ensure very rapid warm-up, which minimizes friction and quickly
brings the catalytic converters up to operating temperature, thus
benefiting fuel consumption and emissions. The external water coolers
are switched into the circuit only as required.

Absolute engine
health, even under extreme racetrack conditions with high lateral
acceleration, is guaranteed by oil circulation using a dry sump system. A
total of eight scavenger pumps suck oil out of the lower bedplate
fastened to the crankcase. Pressure and scavenging losses are thus
reduced by around 50 percent. A high-pressure oil pump maintains
lubrication, while an oil/water cooler and an oil/air radiator
constantly keep temperatures within range even under extremely high
load. A further benefit of this form of dry sump lubrication is the very
low mounting position of the engine within the sports car. The new
engine is mounted 60 millimeters lower than the V12 in the Murciélago -
with the associated benefits in respect of center of gravity and lateral
dynamics.

From the outside, the V12 is dominated by its intake
system - which incorporates four individual throttle valves. Life inside
the black housing is also extremely complex - the optimum intake path
for any given load and engine speed is facilitated by two flaps, several
channels and one bypass. The payback is an extremely well-rounded
torque curve and refined pulling power throughout the rev range.

Mighty orchestra for twelve voices

The
exhaust system, too, was afforded the undivided attention of
Lamborghini's engineers - the lowest possible gas emissions was just as
important a target as the unmistakable, spine-tingling Lamborghini
sound. The hydro-formed and thermally insulated three-into-one system
incorporates four pre-catalytic converters close to the engine and two
main catalytic converters shortly before the muffler. The casing
incorporates two separate mufflers - one low-volume, one high-volume.
Regulated by valves controlled via the engine management, they handle
all the elements of the big twelve-cylinder symphony - from a moderate
rumble when rolling through the city at low revs to the screaming
crescendo of maxed-out gear shifts.

Electronics devised entirely by Lamborghini

Another
highlight is the electronic engine management, which was developed in
its entirety by engineers at Lamborghini. The system consists of the
main ECU, a secondary "smart actuators" and two additional black boxes
that function as "smart sensors". Because speed is everything for an
engine like this, some ECU control and connection functions are handled
by the smart actuators, making the ECU faster. The two smart sensors are
constantly monitoring combustion in real time - each ignition in every
cylinder. The spark plugs - each is powered by an individual ignition
coil - function as "sensors"; the two auxiliary control units monitor
the power signal after every ignition and can immediately identify
irregularities in the combustion process through ionization phenomena.
This data is used to continually optimize engine management, benefiting
both performance and fuel consumption.

High performance in every dimension

All
these technical highlights come together to create a high-performance
power unit like no other. The maximum output of 515 kW (700 hp) at 8,250
rpm is an impressive statement in itself. The maximum torque is 690
Newton meters and is available at 5,500 r/min. The extremely generous
torque curve, meaty pulling power in every situation, extremely
reflexive responses and, not least, the finely modulated but always
highly emotional acoustics make the L539 a stunning power unit for a
super sports car of the highest order. And not only was the L539
developed entirely in-house at Lamborghini, it is also built from start
to finish at company headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese. Highly
qualified specialists assemble the engines by hand, with every single
unit undergoing an extensive final testing and detailed calibration
program on an engine test bed.

The new Lamborghini ISR
transmission (ISR: Independent Shifting Rods) - Innovative
servo-actuated mechanical gearbox for maximum performance

However,
it is not the engine alone that defines the character and driving
characteristics of a super sports car. Another key element is the
transmission. The demands are clear - the ratios must be perfectly
arrayed and enable optimum power delivery from the engine. For maximum
vehicle performance, shift times should be less than the blink of an
eye. Operation must be clear and straightforward, via two ergonomic
shift paddles behind the steering wheel. The characteristics of the
transmission must be in line with the wishes of the driver at any given
point - from smooth city cruising through to tough action on the
racetrack. And, not least, Lamborghini customers expect an emotional
shift feeling that ensures the sports car's reactions can always be felt
and understood. Thus, the development objective was clearly formulated
in this respect, too - create the world's most emotional gear shift.

For
all these reasons, the engineers in the R&D Department opted for a
robotized gearbox as the "companion" of the new V12 power unit -
however, in a very special iteration: the Lamborghini ISR transmission.
This important part of the powertrain is not only much lighter in
comparison to a dual clutch transmission, it also has the compact
dimensions of a regular manual gearbox. Both weight and size advantages
are key in the process of building super sports cars.

Unique engineering for super sports cars

The
new unit is laid out as a two-shaft transmission with seven forward
gears and one reverse. For especially high durability, the synchronizing
rings are made from carbon-fiber - a material with which Lamborghini
has enormous experience. The short shift times are facilitated by the
special design of the transmission, known as ISR - Independent Shifting
Rod.

To summarize the principle - in a conventional manual
gearbox, be it automated or fully manual, the gear wheels for, say,
second and third gears are located side by side. When the driver wants
to shift gear, the shifting sleeve with synchronizer unit is moved along
the shifting rod from second gear through neutral to third gear. This
requires twice the distance and twice the time - second gear has to be
disengaged before third gear can be engaged.

Short distances, fast shift times

This
process is significantly shortened in the Lamborghini ISR transmission -
the gear wheels from the second and third gears are separate from each
other and the shifting sleeves are actuated by independent shifting
rods. Now the shifting process can run virtually in parallel - while one
shifting rod is disengaging one gear, the second shifting rod can
already engage the next gear. Because these movements partially overlap
and the mechanical distances are considerably shorter, this facilitates a
significant saving in shift time. Overall, the Lamborghini ISR
transmission shifts around 140 percent faster than the e.gear
transmission in the Gallardo. And that is already one of the world's
fastest automated manual gearboxes.

Compact construction, low weight

The
new transmission has four of these independent shifting rods, with
sensors constantly monitoring their exact positions. They are operated
via hydraulic actuators, with an extremely high system pressure of 60
bar ensuring the necessary operating speed. The system incorporates a
total of seven hydraulic valves, with pressure supplied by an electric
pump. The double-plate clutch is also hydraulically actuated. All system
components are contained within one casing. The total weight of the
transmission is only 70 kilograms - a distinct advantage, especially
compared with the significantly heavier seven-gear dual-clutch
transmissions.

Five operating modes for all situations

Lamborghini
drivers can choose between five operating modes: three manual (Strada,
Sport and Corsa) and two automatic (Strada-auto and Sport-auto). The
Strada mode offers highly comfort-oriented shifting, with
fully-automatic also an option. The Sport mode has a dynamic set-up in
terms of shifting points and times, while the Corsa mode delivers the
maximum shift strategy for race track driving. This mode also includes
Launch Control, the automatic function for maximum acceleration from a
standing start.

With the Lamborghini ISR transmission, engineers
working under the sign of the bull have devised an ingenious mate for
the new twelve-cylinder power unit. Their work has created an overall
powertrain that is absolutely unique in the world of super sports cars.

Integrated electronic control system

The
excellent performances are possible only by a fast communication
architecture through the several powertrain ECU's and considering the
powertrain as ONE-system in the car.

The fully electronic
controlled coupling device for the front wheels (the 'old' viscous
coupling) is another key point of the powertrain: it is able to
continuously distribute the right torque to the front wheels for always
attaining the best performance aspired to by the driver. The torque
distribution to the front wheels can vary continuously from 0% to 60% of
the total torque available.

Pushrod suspensions and steering

The
new Lamborghini V12 super sports car features an innovative and highly
sophisticated suspension concept. The pushrod spring and damper concept
was inspired by Formula 1 and tuned perfectly to meet the needs of a
high-performance road-going vehicle. Together with aluminium double
wishbone suspensions and a carbon ceramic brake system, this lightweight
chassis is another element of the unique technology concept in
Lamborghini's new flagship model.

An extremely precise, indeed
razor-sharp, driving feel accurately describes the soul of the newest
and most powerful super sports car ever to bear the sign of the bull.
This includes a steering system that can think its way through a bend
adhering to the perfect line, a suspension that masters the ideal
balance between race-car feel for the road and plenty of comfort for
ramping up the miles, and lateral stability that ensures absolute safety
even at the very highest speeds.

Pushrod suspension derived from motorsport

With
its phenomenal engine output of 515 kW / 700 hp and its comparatively
low vehicle weight, the new V12 super sports car from Lamborghini blasts
its way to the very highest speeds. The most important characteristic
of the new suspension is its design in line with the pushrod principle -
inspired by Formula 1. The spring/damper elements are not located on
the wheel mounts, but connected inboard to the body shell structure.
They are transversely positioned: under the windscreen in the front and
close to the engine in the rear. Pushrods and relay levers / rockers
transmit the forces from the wheel mounts to the spring/damper elements.

Responsive handling characteristics at all speeds

This
solution offers a whole series of impressive benefits: due to the
combination of the double wishbone and pushrod arrangement, wheel
control and damper remain separate from each other. As a result,
handling is more responsive and easier to manage at all speeds, while
rigid connection to the chassis also improves the precise and
spontaneous reaction of the springs and dampers. As a result, spring
stiffness can be notched back a little - comfort increases, while
precision remains. On the front axle, the shock absorbers are equipped
with a hydraulic lifting system, which enables the front end of the
super sports car to be lifted by 40 millimeters at the touch of a
button, simplifying its ability to negotiate minor obstacles.

Systematic lightweight engineering in aluminum and carbon fiber

Aluminium
and carbon fiber are also the most important lightweight engineering
materials on the chassis. The entire suspension system, including upper
and lower control arms, wheel mounts and relay levers are made from
forged aluminium alloy. The large-diameter discs on the high-performance
brake system, on the other hand, are made from lightweight and
extremely hard-wearing carbon ceramic composite material. On the front
axle, the ventilated discs measure no less than 400 millimeters in
diameter, with braking force delivered via six cylinder calipers. On the
rear axle, 380 millimeter diameter discs are used in combination with
four cylinder calipers. The parking brake on the new Lamborghini top
model is electrically powered.

Steering forms the sensitive connection between driver and automobile

The
hydraulic steering on the Lamborghini V12 forms the highly sensitive
connection between the driver and the super sports car, which runs on
19-inch wheels clad on 255/35 tires at the front and 20-inch rims on
335/30 tires at the rear. Steering Gear foresees 3 different servotronic
characteristics managed by drive select mode.

Equipment and Options

The
new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 offers the most up-to-date,
comprehensive and individualistic technology and equipment package ever
realized in a super sports car. From the dynamics through safety to
communication and entertainment, the Aventador fulfills every imaginable
desire of the most demanding sports car fan. The wide range of exterior
and interior colors and variants is perfect for individualization and,
of course, "Ad Personam" is also available for the Aventador for the
ultimate in personalization - where the only limits set are those of the
imagination.

The standard package of electronic systems includes
ABS, electronic brake distribution, anti-slip control, speed-dependent
servo-tronic steering, hill start assist and, of course, ESP stability
control. The rear spoiler and the side air intakes are electronically
controlled. The Drive Select System enables vehicle characteristics
(engine, transmission, differential, stability control, steering) to be
set in accordance with individual driver preferences in one of three
modes - Strada (road), Sport and Corsa (track).

Latest Generation HMI control

The
cockpit with TFT-LCD display also comes as standard, as does the
multimedia HMI system with Navigation, including traffic data, iPod
connection and Bluetooth.

The automatic climate control functions
with a sunlight sensor, with further sensors controlling the automatic
headlights. The bi-xenon headlamps come with daytime running lights and
rear lights in LED technology.

The five-spoke alloy wheels are
clad in Pirelli P Zero tires and feature tire pressure monitoring, while
the brake system is equipped with carbon-ceramic rotors and black brake
calipers. Safety equipment includes six front, thorax, head and knee
airbags.

Wide range of individualization options

Options
include features such as the transparent engine cover, black painted
wheels and brake calipers in yellow, gray or orange. The standard audio
system can be upgraded to the "High-End Lamborghini Sound System" with
premium speakers featuring neodymium technology and 4 x 135 watt
amplifiers. Park assistance systems include proximity sensors front and
rear, as well as a reversing camera.

A range of 13 colors are
available at launch, in pastel metallic, pearlescent or matt finishes.
These include the new shades Grigio Estoque and Arancio Argos. Three
colors are available in specialized and highly sophisticated matt
finishes as AD Personam- Nero Nemesis, Bianco Canopus and Marrone Apus.

The
full leather single-color interior is available in either Nero Alde
(black) or in Marrone Elpis, a warm brown shade. The contrasting
stitching can be ordered in a range of colors. The two-tone leather
interiors are offered in two style lines. For Bicolor Sportivo, the base
color is black, with the contrast in orange, white, yellow or green,
while Bicolor Elegante presents a harmonious blend of brown tones. A
virtually inexhaustible array of variants is also offered by the Ad
Personam individualization program.

The price of the Lamborghini Aventador and market delivery

UK: GBP 201.900,00 (suggested retail price taxes excluded)

Europe: € 255.000 (suggested retail price taxes excluded)

USA: 379.700 USD (suggested retail price - GGT included)

China: RMB 6.270.000,00 (suggested retail price taxes included)

Japan: YEN 39.690.000,00 (suggested retail price taxes included)

The first customers will take delivery of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 in late summer 2011.

The History - The twelve-cylinder at the heart of the brand with the bull

Lamborghini
V12 - a long and glorious story. According to the history books,
Ferruccio Lamborghini established a car company in the early sixties
because he wanted to better the products on offer at the time from the
competition, with the best possible technology and quality. The
prototype for all later Lamborghini super sports cars was the 350 GTV
study presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1963. It featured an all-new
aluminium twelve-cylinder developed from scratch by engine designer
Giotto Bizzarrini and boasted performance figures that were nothing
short of breathtaking by the standards of the time. The 12-cylinder
V-engine with 60 degree cylinder bank angle, four overhead camshafts (at
a time when single camshafts were still the norm), a six bbl carburetor
and dry sump lubrication, generated 360 hp at 8,000 rpm from a
displacement of 3,497 cm3 that would take the concept car to a top speed
of 280 km/h. The 350 GT series production version with conventional
lubrication launched the following year produced 320 hp at 7,000 rpm
from a displacement of 3,464 cm3.

It was exactly this engine that
captured the imagination of show-goers at the 1966 Geneva Auto Salon in
the Lamborghini Miura. Although its main features were already familiar
from the 400 GT,
this time the four-liter 60° twelve-cylinder was mounted transversely
behind the cockpit, with transmission and differential in a single unit
fixed directly to the frame.

The 320 hp made the series production
Miura that followed the fastest production car of its time with a
stated top speed of more than 280 km/h - and, with that, the first true
super sports car. This engine was further developed over the years, with
several iterations featuring in the Miura S (370 hp at 7,000 rpm, 285
km/h) and Miura SV (385 hp, 300 km/h). In the Miura Jota,
a one-off made for racing, the V12 generated 440 hp at 8,500 rpm.
However, applications for the four-liter were not limited to the
mid-engine Miura. In the front-engine Islero, introduced in 1968, and in
the 400 GT Jarama, it produced 350 hp, while in the futuristic Espada
the figure was 325 hp (later also 350 hp). In 1974, the Espada also saw
an automatic transmission offered for the first time.

The
generational shift from the Miura to the new LP400 Countach took place
in the early seventies. 1971 brought the prototype with a breathtaking,
edgy form, the genes of which would ultimately re-emerge forty years
later in present-day Lamborghini super sports cars. Marcello Gandini's
design was a fitting outfit for a five-liter version of the V12.

However,
this engine was dropped from the series production model in 1973 in
favor of a further evolution of the four-liter unit. In the 1973
Countach - still without the "wing" or spoiler of the eighties - it was
longitudinally mounted behind the driver, where it generated 375 hp at
an impressive 8,000 rpm and reached a top speed of 300 km/h. The years
that followed saw the Countach engine undergo a series of evolutionary
developments, although still based on the familiar cornerstones of the
first V12 unit. It was in 1985 that the Countach Quattrovalvole
took displacement over the five-liter mark for the first time (5,167
cm3) and - as the name implies - featured a four-valve cylinder head.
Output was an impressive 455 hp at 7,000 rpm.

In 1986, the five-liter V12 was presented with a completely new application - the Lamborghini LM002
may also have had the 450 hp engine mounted up front, but the 2.7 ton
automobile was the first and only SUV produced by the brand, a four-door
all-terrain vehicle. The late eighties saw the amazingly long career of
the Countach near its end with the Countach Anniversario.
The Diablo followed as its rightful heir, clad in a distinctly nineties
outfit. By 1990, the V12 had increased to 5.7 liters and by the end of
Diablo production to almost six liters, producing 492 hp. One year
later, the Diablo VT was the brand's first four-wheel drive sports car. Over the next few years, output grew steadily to 520 hp (1993 Diablo SE). The Diablo GT with 575 hp and the radical GTR
with 590 hp both appeared in 1999. The Diablo 6.0 was the first model
to feature the V12 with displacement expanded to six liters, its output
ultimately reaching 550 hp.

The Murciélago was launched in 2001 as
the first Lamborghini of the new era. It boasted a new 6.2 liter alloy
V12 with a crankshaft running on seven bearings and dry sump
lubrication. It generated 580 hp at 7,500 rpm and took the super sports
car weighing just 1,650 kilograms to a top speed of 330 km/h. The
maximum torque of 650 Nm was reached at just 5,400 rpm. At the 2006
Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini unveiled the Murciélago LP640,
which produces 640 hp from the V12 unit that had been expanded to 6,496
cm3. In the strictly limited Lamborghini Reventón, the twelve-cylinder
that is the very heart of the brand generated 650 hp. The grand finale
came with the Murciélago LP670-4 Superveloce with its 670 hp. However, 2011 marks the start of a new chapter in this glorious story...

SOURCE:NETCARSHOW.COM

generation has arrived and in a world debut Brabus presents an
exclusive tuning program for the new four-door coupe at the 2011 Geneva
Motor Show.

Sporty-elegant design paired with aerodynamic
efficiency is the trademark of Brabus. For the new CLS body components
were developed in the wind tunnel. They are manufactured in OEM quality
from flexible high-quality Pur-R-Rim.

The Brabus front spoiler is
mounted to the production bumper and noticeably reduces lift on the
front axle at high speeds. The front can be further upgraded with the
Brabus front apron caps. They feature strikingly styled air inlets and
LED daytime running lights, available with either dark or chrome
surrounds.

The CLS gets a distinctly dynamic appearance with the
Brabus sport fenders. In addition to gills each side also features a
horizontal brace with illuminated Brabus lettering.

The Brabus
sill skirts give the four-door an even lower, sleeker stance. A useful
and appealing added feature is the set of integrated entrance lights
that are activated via keyless fob or door handles.

LED lights for
safely accessing the trunk in the dark are integrated into the Brabus
rear apron. Custom-tailored cutouts in the new rear apron provide the
perfect backdrop for the four tailpipes of the Brabus sport exhaust
system. The rear appearance is rounded out with a centrally mounted
reflector.

The Brabus rear spoiler creates a perfect aerodynamic balance and emphasizes the sporty character of the Brabus designer suit.

Another
important contribution to the exclusive Brabus look for the new CLS
comes from the Brabus Monoblock wheels in sizes ranging from 8.5Jx17 to
10.5Jx20. The OEM-quality alloys are available as one-piece and three
piece wheels in six different designs.

The most exclusive version
features Brabus Monoblock VI, E or S wheels in size 9Jx20 in front and
size 10.5Jx20 in back. The latest addition to the Brabus wheel family is
the Brabus Monoblock F wheel. Presented initially as a forged wheel it
is now also available as a 20-inch cast wheel, which also celebrates its
world debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2011. On the new CLS this wheel
can be mounted in sizes 8.5Jx20 and 9.5Jx20, painted a grey "Liquid
Titanium" shade. The largest tires supplied by Brabus technology
partners Pirelli and YOKOHAMA for these wheels come in size 255/30 ZR 20
in front and in size 305/25 ZR 20 for the rear axle.

Specially
calibrated to the use of sporty low-profile tires are the Brabus
suspension solutions, developed in cooperation with technology partner
BILSTEIN. The lineup ranges from Brabus sport springs for a ride-height
lowering by some 30 millimeters (1.2 in.). Sportier ambitions can be met
with the Brabus complete suspension, which combines the ride-height
lowering with firmer but yet comfortable damper settings. CLS models
equipped ex-factory with the semi-active AIRMATIC air suspension system
can be lowered by some 35 millimeters (1.4 in.) with the Brabus
suspension module.

Brabus offers the world's most extensive
performance tuning program for Mercedes-Benz automobiles. The CLS 250
CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model equipped with Brabus ECO PowerXtra D4
performance kit delivers an additional 31 hp (31 bhp) / 22.8 kW and
produces a peak torque of 560 Nm (413 lb-ft).

For the CLS 350 CDI
BlueEFFICIENCY Brabus offers the ECO PowerXtra D6S tuning kit. The
plug-and-play auxiliary control unit can be installed by any authorized
Mercedes-Benz dealer or any Brabus competence partner in less than 45
minutes. This high-tech performance tuning also gives the driver the
opportunity to influence power yield via the selected shift program of
the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission.

In "Eco" mode only peak
torque is increased from 620 Nm to 690 Nm (457 to 509 lb-ft) between
1,600 and 2,400 rpm. The maximum power output remains unchanged. If the
"Sport" mode is selected manually or activated automatically both peak
torque and power output are increased. Maximum rated power output then
jumps from 265 hp (261 bhp) / 195 kW to 313 hp (309 bhp) / 230 kW at a
low 3,600 rpm. Using this setting, the tuned turbodiesel model sprints
from 0 - 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Top speed is limited
electronically to 250 km/h (155 mph).

All Brabus engines are operated exclusively with ARAL high-performance lubricants.

Fully
stainless-steel Brabus quad sport exhaust systems are available for all
CLS engine variants. The precision-calibrated exhaust systems optimize
power yield and produce a throaty exhaust note.

Exclusive interior
design that meets every customer request is a particular Brabus
specialty. The options for the new Mercedes CLS range from appealing
accessories to custom-tailored interiors crafted from especially soft
and breathable yet highly durable Brabus Mastik leather and Alcantara.

The
ergonomically shaped Brabus sport steering wheel is available in a
variety of leather/wood designs. It provides perfect road feedback and
ensures a relaxed posture for long-distance driving.

Scuff plates
with illuminated Brabus logo or the speedometer with 340-km/h dial (213
mph) add individual highlights as do the distinctly sporty Brabus
interior accessories: They include aluminum components such as pedal
pads, door-lock pins and shifter, and high-quality clear-coated
carbon-fiber inlays for dashboard and center console. Brabus also offers
wood trim in any desired color and grain.

The four-door Brabus Mercedes-Benz CLS coupe can also be equipped with a custom-tailored Brabus multimedia package.

SOURCE:NETCARSHOW

Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package

hat-trick of class wins at the Nürburgring 24 Hours race, Lexus has
created the Nürburgring Package, an array of aerodynamic features,
suspension adjustments and revisions to the 4.8-litre V10 engine that
give the supercar a more track-focused profile. Shown in public for the
first time at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the performance option is
available on just 50 of the 500 cars that will be built. These versions
will be crafted during 2012, the second full year of Lexus LFA
production.

To sharpen the car's circuit driving performance even
further by increasing downforce at high speed, the Nürburgring Package
introduces modifications and additions to several key carbon fibre
reinforced plastic (CFRP) components. These include a larger front
spoiler, fin-type side spoilers, a canard fin and a fixed rear wing.

To
ensure the Lexus LFA maintains its 3.7-second acceleration time from
nought to 62mph, in spite of the increased drag, the V10 engine has been
revised to increase maximum power by 10bhp to 562bhp. Shift times in
the six-speed sequential transmission are just 0.15 seconds.

In
terms of handling modifications, the package features suspension tuning
and a 10mm reduction in the ride height. Exclusive mesh-type wheels are
introduced, fitted with dedicated high-grip tyres.

Exterior colour
choices are restricted to matte black, black, white or orange, with
interiors finished in black and red, black and purple and all-black.
Cars delivered in Europe will feature a carbon fibre centre console and
door trims, with carbon fibre sports seats finished in Alcantara.

Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package (2012)

Customers
who specify the package will also be offered one-to-one driving tuition
from a Nürburgring chief instructor and a year's pass to enjoy their
car on the famous Nordschleife circuit.

CFRP parts manufacturing

Lexus
LFA production began in December 2010 with just one hand-crafted car
completed per day. A team of 175 people are involved in CFRP parts
manufacturing, vehicle assembly and painting.

CFRP is
exceptionally strong, rigid and lightweight, and accounts for about 65
per cent of the Lexus LFA's body structure weight. This amounts to a
saving of about 100kg, compared an equivalent all-aluminium body.

Lexus
is producing and assembling the CFRP components in-house, with a view
to future development of the technology. It is a time-consuming process,
compared to working with steel or aluminium, but the LFA project
provides a valuable test bed for new, automated processes which will be
used in the manufacture of future Lexus and Toyota models.

Different manufacturing technologies are used according the shape, role and required properties of each component.

Pre-preg:
this is an industry-standard composite sheet material made of carbon
fibre, pre-impregnated with epoxy resin. It is used for the Lexus LFA's
main structural elements, such as the dash, side and cross-members and
panels.

Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM): this is dry sheet
fabrication, with epoxy resin injected into the mould. It is mainly
employed in the Lexus LFA's secondary main frames, such as the crash
boxes, roof side rails and vehicle floor.

Carbon fibre - Sheet
Moulding Compound (C-SMC): this is used for fabricating the upper body
components and frames that have complex geometries.

Adhesive bonding

The
Lexus LFA assembly line moves through five consecutive processes, each
of which has been digitally validated. For the first four -
sub-assembly, underbody, small aluminium parts and main body - adhesive
bonding is used. Final assembly of the aluminium parts is by mechanical
fastening.

This is the first time Lexus has used adhesive bonding
for main body assembly, a process that has required new quality control
measures to be implemented to ensure each of the five stages involved in
the bonding meets the required criteria.

SOURCE:NETCARSHOW

Aston Martin Virage - supremely elegant and powerful, yet juxtaposed as
an understated sports car. The marque can now provide customers with a
class-leading range, all with different characters, yet with the same
unique Aston Martin soul and luxury.

Beautiful, dynamic and
prestigious, the Aston Martin Virage combines outright sports car
performance with luxury, comfort and refinement. The front mid-mounted
V12 engine's torque delivery provides outstanding performance, coupled
with the car's inherent agility and perfect weight distribution
delivering the ideal balance between outright sports car performance and
trademark sporting luxury exemplified by modern Aston Martins.

Aston
Martin CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez said: "100 years of automotive history has
demonstrated that evolution delivers the best solutions in time. So it
is with Virage; it is the next level of evolution in our VH architecture
strategy and it does everything with the perfection that you would
expect today. It is the perfect balance of opposites."

The Aston Martin Virage sits between the enduringly elegant DB9 and overtly sporting DBS,
providing customers with a car that remains luxurious and understated
but delivers increased performance and crucially performance that is
always accessible for effortless driving.

Aston Martin Virage (2012)

Aston
Martin's revered hand-built 6.0 litre V12 engine produces 490 bhp (365
kW/497 PS) and 570 nM (420 lb. Ft) of torque and through its carbon
fibre prop shaft, is mated to a six-speed Touchtronic II automatic
transmission mounted on the transaxle contributing to perfect 50:50
weight balance.

The Aston Martin Virage's dynamics have been tuned
to deliver an engaging yet more refined driving experience, where the
driver can extract the maximum performance from the car with greater
ease. A newly developed Adaptive Damping System (ADS) intelligently
'reads' the road to provide optimum road holding, adapting to different
conditions. The system now selects up to five different stiffness
settings within normal mode, and a further five stiffer settings within
sport mode.

Aiding driver control, a 'Sport' button on the facia
allows the driver to select a sharper throttle response and faster gear
changes while also holding the gears without automatically shifting up
at the revolution limiter.

Aston Martin Virage will be delivered
with Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes as standard - bucking the trend
in this market - offering progressive and tremendous stopping power.
Powerful, resistant to fade and much lighter than conventional cast-iron
discs, the CCM braking system means that not only is the overall
vehicle weight reduced, but the weight saving at each wheel means that a
better balance between ride comfort and handling can be struck. Lower
rotational mass also provides improved acceleration.

Aston Martin
Virage capitalises on the technology from the DBS and unites it with the
comfort and refinement found in the DB9 and Rapide.
Aston Martin's own bonded aluminium 'VH' architecture that forms the
backbone of the marque's sports cars, takes inspiration from the
aerospace industry where weight reduction is the ultimate goal. Strong
yet light, the inherent properties of modular aluminium lend themselves
perfectly to an extremely rigid and versatile platform which allows the
production of a Aston Martin Virage coupe and Volante.

The Aston
Martin Virage sits low and wide asserting the power which lies beneath;
single bi-xenon headlamps follow the lines of the car's flanks to give a
more crisp and modern look from the front. A new aluminium metal front
grille, inspired by the One-77,
features five horizontal vanes which are chamfered creating an aerofoil
profile. The new front bumper is pure and relieves the car of any
visual complexities, contributing to the overall simplicity of design.
The front wings distinguish the Aston Martin Virage from its stable
mates housing a new modern interpretation of the Aston Martin iconic
side strake housing six LEDs elegantly forming the side repeater. Aston
Martin Virage's side sills carry the simplicity of the front bumper
through to the rear diffuser which houses a body-coloured blade
accentuating the width of the car.

As drivers and passengers open
the signature swan wing doors, they are greeted by the aroma of seven
hides of the finest Bridge of Weir leather expertly hand stitched by
craftsmen. Inspiration has been taken from luxury leather goods to
produce a pinstripe welt which flows down either side of the facia and
along the seat and door, drawing your eye through the car. Each Aston
Martin Virage will have 70 man hours of expert craftsmanship lavished on
the interior alone to create the famous sophisticated Aston Martin
interior. In all, over 200 man hours will be spent handcrafting the
Virage at Aston Martin's global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire,
England as it becomes the tenth major production car to be built there
in the space of less than eight years.

Simplicity runs throughout
the car with the new fully integrated Satellite Navigation system that
has been developed in conjunction with Garmin. The new system simplifies
operation through the existing four-way joystick mounted on the facia. A
new 6.5 inch high resolution display uses the latest graphics and maps
to visually and aurally guide the driver to their destination.

Standard
equipment includes heated seats (Sports seats only), cruise control,
satellite navigation, Bluetooth telephone preparation and the powerful
700W Aston Martin Premium Audio System with Dolby® Pro Logic II® and
full iPod® integration.

Performance

Sitting
at the heart of any Aston Martin sports car is an evocative engine and
no more so in the new Virage which adopts the famous hand-built 6.0
litre V12 which is assembled in Aston Martin's bespoke engine plant in
Köln, Germany. Aston Martin technicians spend in excess of 20 hours
building and testing every engine before sending it to Gaydon where it
is mounted as far back in the Aston Martin Virage as possible to
contribute to its perfect 50:50 weight balance.

The Aston Martin
Virage engine produces 490 bhp (365 kW/497 PS) and 570 nM (420 lb. Ft)
of torque and is identified from other V12s in the family with a black
plenum. The plenum houses a new 'five pillar design' increasing the
rigidity of the manifold delivering an improved sound quality. The V12
has been designed to deliver over 85% of Virage's peak torque at only
1,500 rpm providing for instant and crucially, real-world useable
traction.

Aston Martin Product Development Director, Ian Minards
explains: "The new Virage represents another landmark Aston Martin in
the sporting GT class, combining luxury with performance. Our
Engineering team has sought to balance the elements of contemporary
design, strong performance credentials and driving fluidity. We have
focused on the major building blocks of automotive performance and
control, as well as the intricate details of operation, comfort and
craftsmanship."

The Touchtronic II transmission features as
standard, and contributes to Aston Martin Virage's refined power
delivery making gear changes tangible yet effortless. Engineered in
conjunction with ZF, the six-speed automatic has optimally placed ratios
to remain quiet on motorway stretches and deliver an engaging response
when driving spiritedly. Controlled through finely polished glass
switches depicting P, R, N, D on the facia, the driver can engage
automatic mode, and the intelligent control system will decide precisely
the right time to change gear in order to achieve the smoothest ratio
move and the optimum fuel economy.

In addition, the driver has the
option of pulling either of the magnesium leather clad paddles to
engage manual mode. Mounted on the steering column so that the driver
can always easily locate either up or down, the manual mode gives the
driver complete control.

Virage features a Sport button on the
facia which when depressed will create a heightened driving experience
through faster gear changes and the system will override the automatic
change-up so the driver is able to hold the gear on the revolution
limiter.

Control

The new Aston Martin
Virage features a new Adaptive Damping System (ADS) which has been tuned
to suit the particular character of Aston Martin's latest sporting GT.
Each damper has five individual computer controlled stiffness settings.
This allows the Virage to 'read' the road via strategically placed
sensors around the car, constantly adjusting the ride at each corner.
Using yaw, accelerometer, steering wheel, throttle and brake (ABS)
sensors, the intelligent system can take into account the demands the
driver is making of the car at any given time. The Adaptive Damping
Electronic Control Unit (ECU) uses these measurements to determine the
most appropriate damper settings required at any given time, becoming
stiffer for better handling and control during dynamic driving, and
becoming softer for greater ride comfort during 'normal' driving
conditions.

Increasing driver control further, the glass ADS
button on the facia allows the driver to override the system to push the
dampers into a firmer range of settings. As the button is depressed,
for the initial five seconds, all damper settings are set to their
firmest providing the driver a tangible difference. After five seconds
the system reverts to the optimum setting within the firmer range
resulting in a more focussed but comfortable driving experience.

Virage
is delivered to customers with Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes as
standard - bucking the trend in this market. Critically acclaimed to
provide the ultimate in progressive stopping power, the CCM discs take
advantage of six piston callipers at the front and four at the rear.
Giving the driver tangible control when braking, they are much more
resistant to fade than conventional cast iron discs and at 12.5 kg
lighter than a conventional system they contribute to a lower unsprung
mass aiding ride comfort and handling.

The Dynamic Stability
Control (DSC) system has been specifically tuned for the Aston Martin
Virage. A three-stage DSC system allows the driver to tailor the level
of electronic intervention according to the type of driving. In default
mode, the system is set to 'on' which will limit any tyre slip in
difficult conditions, and provide the maximum amount of security
possible without being intrusive. Holding the DSC button for four
seconds will engage 'Track Mode' which delays the electronic
intervention further, creating a safe yet purer experience. Depressing
the button for a further five seconds will disengage the system
completely.

Using knowledge learned from the V8 Vantage Roadster and DBS Volante,
the new Virage Volante features a solidly-mounted rear subframe as well
as front and rear shear panels which deliver high levels of rigidity.
This means that the Virage Volante retains its sporting dynamic
characteristics, uncompromised by the open roof. For the first time on
an Aston Martin the Virage coupe also uses a shear panel at the rear of
the car, again to enhance strength and rigidity.

The fully
integrated Aston Martin standard satellite navigation system has been
completely revised for the Aston Martin Virage benefiting from a new
system developed in conjunction with Garmin which is operated using the
existing joystick and facia buttons. Features include clearer graphics,
improved pictorial junction views and safety camera data. The new system
maintains its integrated look, out of view beneath the real wood facia,
rising seamlessly from the centre console at the touch of a button.
Control through the aluminium four-way joystick prevents unattractive
finger marks on the screen which impede clear vision.

Design, Refinement and Comfort

The
new Virage was designed at Aston Martin's dedicated design studio at
its global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, England. As an
independent company, Aston Martin can take an initial sketch, through to
a full size clay model, then to a prototype and ultimately into
production all on one site. It allows the marque to be agile and
reactive customer trends and demands.

Virage will be built in the
same production facility as the DBS and DB9 and will be Aston Martin's
tenth major new model to go into production at the UK site since Gaydon
was opened.

Marek Reichman, Design Director at Aston Martin said:
"The new Virage moves Aston Martin's design language evolution into a
new contemporary phase. We have sculpted a new face which sharpens and
refines the Aston Martin Virage whilst still being instantly
recognisable as a pure Aston Martin sports car. The whole car looks as
if it was precision machined from a single billet of aluminium
emphasising the attention to detail and exquisite surface language. At
Aston Martin we pride ourselves on beautifully honed surfaces created by
skilled craftsmen."

Reichman continues: "The Virage will always
delight, from picking up the glass and polished aluminium ECU key,
walking up and admiring its stunning form, and tacitly appreciating the
treatment of all the other senses through the finish of the materials.
It makes every journey an event.

"The Virage doesn't wear its
identity on its sleeve, it doesn't shout 'look at me', rather calmly
hints at its potential, through pure lines and a low elegant stance."

New
single lens bi-xenon lights lie beneath a new front headlamp which
houses a side light 'bar' dissipating LED light giving the Virage an
individual yet subtle visual on the road.

New 20" wheels add to
the sense of proportion with a five spoke twin-prong design as standard
and a 10-spoke forged diamond turned wheel as an option. Customers are
also afforded the option of coordinating their brake callipers with
their exterior paint colour with black, grey, red and yellow now being
offered.

The Aston Martin engineering team sought to create a
sports car that offers customers the highest levels of refinement yet
combined with the increased power and control desired by customers. To
this ends extra sound insulation has been applied to the front and rear
bulkheads to create a relaxed ambiance when cruising. The Aston Martin
Virage Volante features an extra layer of Thinsulate material in the
fabric hood making the Volante feel like a coupe when the hood is up.
Each Virage features seven hides of the finest leather sourced from
Scandinavia with each interior taking in excess of 70 man hours to hand
craft. It is this attention to detail which creates one of the finest
and opulent moving interiors in existence today. As the driver or
passenger opens the swan wing doors - which open up and out at 12
degrees to prevent any scrapes on nearby kerbs - they are greeted to
pinstriped leather seams which are hand stitched by one seamstress just
to be sure of a consistency throughout the car. The 10-way adjustable
sports seats are sculpted to provide maximum support and comfort while
the two-stage heated seats instantly shake the chill on a frosty
morning. The option of an alternative lightweight seat arrangement is
available with the 2+0 layout on the coupe.

Contributing to the
feeling of luxury, finely polished glass buttons adorn the facia
inviting the driver to select their desired setup or control. Aston
Martin's design team have stayed true to the ethos of using material
honestly where facias are real hand finished and polished woods, dials
are milled aluminium, and leathers retain their patina and aroma years
into their life.

In coupe form, Aston Martin Virage is available
as a 2+2 or a 2+0 as an option, the latter providing a rear parcel shelf
ideal for soft bags, while also reducing weight.

SOURCE:NETCARSHOW

The Drag Racing Scene of Pakistan

The Drag Racing Scene of Pakistan

Pakistan
is a third world country but just like all other countries, drag racing
is a popular sport and is getting more popular day by day. I liked it
in the beginning but within few years – it developed into my passion, I
left all the hobbies and only took interest in drag racing. The hunger
for racing was huge, it brought an adrenalin rush so powerful and
sedating that it cannot be described in words. In late 2007 I got my
first digital camera and I started to take photos of every track
gathering made videos of the races that happened just to keep memories.

Since I first got into this sport, there were few people who use to
take part and supported it but as the time went by, the sport got
popular among the masses and many people started to take part in it. In
the late 90s and early 2000 drag racing was the only thing you hear
amongst the motor sports lovers getting discussed. Karachi has hosted
the most active drag racing scene among all the cities from the
beginning of such sport in this Country. Mostly, folks began with Honda
Civics and then they moved on the best race cars in the world e.g.
Toyota Supra, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Nissan Skyline GT-R, Subaru
Imprezza STi, Mitsubishi FTO, Mazda Rx 7 etc. They have built these cars
and tuned them to the next level. I have several friends in some
international tuning garages like Rising sun performance, sumo power,
RIPS New Zealand, Endless R , MLR , Mellon tuning , they all have
admired and appreciated the way we have built our cars and race with the
limited technical resources and fuel available.

Pakistan is gifted with talented people in each and every field,
drag racing, tuning cars and stunts are no different for this matter.
From Karachi to Khyber you will find the best of the best but the dilema
is that government doesn’t recognize drag racing as proper sport hence
it is labeled as illegal street racing. Although rallying is supported
by government so it is done in much safer environment. The drag racing
scene in Karachi is done privately on roads which have no public
transport and least number of people, from start till the end; just 400
meters. Guys who want to race gather first, race and then they go home.
People who gather on Sundays and Saturday nights – drive rash and have
nothing to do with drag racing or racers, hooligans are ruining the
scene. When professionals race they make sure that the race is done
safely; people are asked to leave the road open and stand at sides
(which I know is not safe by any means but that is how it is without
government support) but no matter how many precautions we take accidents
are inevitable, when it is done with out proper arrangement. Some
people saw this as an opportunity so they took initiative and started to
arrange drag racing events privately, some events were supported by the
government as well for example the TDCP car event. The only solution is
to take it off from the streets by providing proper venues otherwise
there is no end to street racing.

Firstly
Car racing events don’t happen in Pakistan but when they do, they have
less then satisfactory safety arrangements for public e.g. TDCP event
lahore, Hamara Karachi event, I was there to watch both of the events
apart from the cars every thing was below par sadly. In TDCP event
police was unable to control the crowd which resulted in a few dangerous
situations and the story was unchanged at Hamara Karachi event. It is
implicit that drag racing is a dangerous sport and people who race are
risking their lives most certainly but people who come to watch these
fast cars race also risk their lives in the same way because there is no
proper venue, stands and safety features. Talking about drag racing and
not discussing the accident that happened recently in Bahria town
Rawalpindi would be a mistake. HPR arranged a drag racing event in
conjunction with Bahria town Rawalpindi sponsored by PTCL, this was by
far the best drag racing event ever organized in Pakistan. Sadly things
went bad when the driver of 800bhp Supra lost control of his car and
crashed straight into the people who were standing on the footpath. I
was there, people were asked several times to get behind the banners and
back off from the footpath, the cars which were about to race were
considered the fastest RWD drag cars of Pakistan. Sadly the driver lost
control and 5 innocent lives were lost, accident is the worst thing a
driver could ever think of and killing people is really a big deal. This
mishap has disgraced drag racing scene in Pakistan. The Pakistani media
launched a fact less propaganda against racing with out determining the
real cause of this accident. Many people have now started to think that
people who race have no respect for human life and organizers should be
accounted for. My personal view; if the authorities had coordinated
with the organizers and given them support to install some sort of
safety barriers or concrete slabs, then surely a tragedy could have been
avoided, but its just one big ‘if’.

The racing community is deeply sad and shocked by this incident,
nobody races to kill – it is done for the sake of entertainment and
sports. This is an eye opener for Government and authorities to
recognize drag racing as proper sports in Pakistan just like hockey,
cricket, and squash. They should build circuits, drag strips in some of
the major cities to avoid accidents like these and provide grooming
grounds for the talented. One day we shall all see that such events will
happen at those drag strips with proper safety and racing arrangements,
families will come without any fear to watch such events. Many people
love car racing and they want to see fast cars, we have so much talent
which just needs support and resources to be up there to compete. Who
knows a Pakistani might come up and uphold Pakistan’s name in
international racing arena.

Source:http://www.pakwheels.com/blog/articles/the-drag-racing-scene-of-pakistan
